Galaxy Nexus S - rooted using Cyanogenmod wiki. Running CM7.10 originally.

Started after rooting from Google? update to ICS. Phone is rooted, have Superuser, etc.

Wanted to update to CM7.2. Tried through ROM manager - it updated, but no wifi. Simply would not take the password or set up new. Said validating, then disconnecting.

Figured I'd try CM9 (the one marked stable in ROM manager. That downloaded, installed, everything ran just fine. Can't run programs installed on the ext st card. Phone doesn't see the card at all.

Retry installing CM7.2 by using sd card. That installed, and wifi is working.
Tried to install CM9 the same way - install from card, it goes so far and aborts with the 7 error. Also can't see card - yet it had to see the usb sd card to even start the installation! If you boot into recovery mode, even while in Cm7.2, it still says card connected to pc.

I'd really like an explanation and possibly a fix.

Thanks

I can't say what might be causing your troubles, but ClockWork Mod does have mounting settings you can fiddle with. Worth checking out to see what it reports.

I did look there - External Storage was greyed out for use, but showed that it had apps in it. Could not access apps.

To be fair - I bought the phone used and unlocked (GB). I'm trying to understand what would cause this behavior. Is it a Nexus problem or did the former owner have it rooted?

The fact that one ROM sees the ext sd and the other won't - even when it will install from the ext sd is the one that is confusing.

Right now 7.2 is OK as some apps I have are having a slight problem on an ICS tablet.

I like the Nexus and wish there were even some rumors about what Google was going to bring out. Or do I buy a new Nexus S - reroot it and start over from scratch seeing that apps work better on a GB type ROM.

If you're comfortable with it, I'd use Fastboot to flash all of the stock files (the system, boot, and recovery partitions). See if that fixes everything, and if the problems are gone, throw CWM 6.0.0.7 back on there and start flashing your favorite ROMs again.
