I almost threw it out a window (signal issue)

Ok - I normally get decent signal, and the 3G coverage in my area is pretty good if not excellent.

But for f**k sakes.... the whole hand covering the bottom and dropping the signal like 4 bars is a REAL pain... and serious issue... it's normally that bad, except at my work - where I'm in some big brick, mortar and steel building that totally blocks my stupid signal. To make matters worse, our building WiFi sucks @$$!!!!!!! So it's always stuck between two bad signals (if I have both wifi and cell on).

I almost 'threw it out the window'.... The EVO 4G is looking more and MORE tempting... although being an HTC device, I wonder if it would suffer the same piss poor RF as the Nexus...

Seriously, I've never had a phone with as bad RF as the Nexus One.... between the useless screen in sunlight, the mediocre at best battery life and the signal issue that is now getting on my nerves more than anything... I don't know how much longer I can stand it. :(

I'd go to Sprint (i'm not on contract, so can leave anytime), but to my knowledge, Sprint uses 1900 Mhz, no? Penetration into my building would be no better than the 1700 Mhz I'm using now (T-Mo)....

Loving the Nexus, but as time goes on, these issues are gnawing at me....

is the screen really that bad in sunlight cause when i first got mines that was one of the first test i did and i have to disagree with. u especially when the brightness is on maximum. As far as signal issues maybe its just T-MO? i am on at&t and yes i have had a dropped call... 2 and counting but as far as signal strength; well i live in the mountains of vermont and my coverage is excellent. that sucks dude yeah i havent really experienced any of your issues sorry

you just said the keywords... "brightness on maximum"... good luck with battery life if that's the case... i should not have to crank it up to 100% only to see a washed out display... you're fooling yourself and misleading others... the Nexus display in sunlight is HORRIBLE...

I have yet to have a dropped call with T-Mo, so I don't blame theme per say, but the fact that their signal is at 1700 MHz (vs 850 MHz for AT&T) means it has crap penetration... and therein lies part of the problem... maybe even the full problem... Maybe not enough towers where my office is I really don't know... but as soon as I'm outside, and even inside my own house, full bars, full 3G, no issues... Sadly I'm in the middle of the building at work and not even close to any windows (which is an entire issue unto itself... :( ) Maybe I should just quit my job, lol. I need to leave this pit known as the D anyways soon for my own sanity...

Anyone know if Sprint does No Contract plans?

If Sprint had no contract plans, I'd half think of picking up a used Hero (bound to be tons of dudes on here wanting to sell in anticipation of the EVO 4G)... ride it out for a few months with said el-cheapo android phone, and save up the pennyroonies for the EVO 4G this summer... root it and get the Sprint chit off of it, and bob's your uncle... :D

of course, this all falls apart if Sprint requires a contract even if not buying a new subsidized phone... I won't sign a contract... Don't want to be tied down to a single carrier for 2 yrs...

That's exactly why I returned mine within the first ten days. Still awaiting the Verizon Incredible or Nexus versions. My temp xv6800 has no such issues inside buildings.

so the signal penetration (1700 Mhz on T-Mo) brings to question: how the F do the Europeans put up with an even worse frequency (ie. higher still) for penetration... ie. 2100 MHz??? maybe since population density is usually a lot higher than over in north america, perhaps so is the tower density - so they are always closer to towers... but i'd think with a lot of their buildings made of stone and heavy on the plaster, than signal penetration would be a massive issue at the 2100 MHz range ???
