Jelly Bean coming to Nexus S

I can't wait. I love ICS, but the performance has been problematic unless I manually close some apps on a regular basis. The code optimizations should help that.

Has anyone got their update yet? It is already mid July. I'm not counting on an update anytime soon though. I seemed to be the last person with a nexus s to get the ICS update.

I don't think you need to be worried. Major updates only make it seem like battery life is worse because you're generally using the phone a lot more to play with the new features.

When I updated my Galaxy Nexus to Jelly Bean, the battery life stay pretty much the same. After enabling Google Now, I did notice it drop a bit, but it still has zero trouble making it through a day.

Since updating to JB, there have only been two days in which my phone had less than 45% left at the end of a ~14 hour day. One was because my router had some trouble, causing the phone's Wifi to constantly connect and disconnect. It actually drained completely and powered down after about 10 hours. The other was because I used it to stream an hour long developer session and was using it almost all day long. I'd estimate the screen was probably on for a solid 4 hours in total. I still had 12% left at the end of that day.

yes, but one thing is losing 1 hour over 14 (your case) than 1 hour over 5 (Nexus S, my case)....

Got it, restoring everything with titanium atm, so I haven't really played around with it yet. Seems nice though.

Got JB for my Nexus S last night (Rogers).

Had to go in to settings > apps > all > find Google Services Framework and do a force stop. Then when i did a check for updates, there it was.

I'm on Rogers as well, still haven't seen it. I did get a 1MB update to a new 4.0.4 on Friday though

I got JB yesterday afternoon from Rogers OTA. Some of the rough edges that remained on ICS have been smoothed. It does lag a little bit, and the google search button is noticeably slower than in ICS. My battery life stinks to begin with, but I don't notice a difference between versions of android.

I'm noticing my battery draining faster, and it's not from playing with it. Woke up this morning at only 13% lft, and something called "Media" at the top of the battery usage list.

I remember this is the same thing that happened when we got the ICS update, and the advise then was to kill Google+.

At any rate, when I updated to ICS, in addition to killing the Google+ process for a while I also did a factory reset which got the battery back to normal. I will likely do the same again this time (which something I see people recommend all the time after an OS update).

I always do a factory reset after a major update. With the minor update from IMM76D to IMM76M I didn't bother and everything was fine. But with JB v4.1.1 it's a big change in the firmware with a lot of optimizations, so a reset was in order. I noticed more free memory, and smoother operation after the reset and after all my apps were back in.

Just a follow-up. I have not done a factory reset, and my battery has gone back to normal.

The culprit seems to be a process called "Media" that runs in the background for a couple of days after the update. I seem to recall this same thing happening when I got the ICS update.

Whenever I checked my battery usage over the first two days after JB, Media was always in the list, but each time I checked it was using a bit less battery. It started out at the very top of the list, and after two days disappeared completely, and now my battery is back to normal.

If I had to guess, it seems like this Media process is, perhaps, scanning the contents of your device (internal memory and SD card) for music, movies, video, books, etc. Almost a "re-indexing" after the OS update.

Once it finishes, it goes away.

The real source of the issue seems to be that our phones are being identified as new devices to google+ and re uploading all the photos and videos on themselves.

Which is also why it calms down after a few days, it's simply done uploading

Except that I don't use google+ at all. Yet I saw the Media service was fairly high on the list the first few days and thought it was odd at the time. Now it makes some sense that something is going on with the Media service after an update/install or reset. It's never in my battery list now and battery life is normal.
