Help flakey headphone jack

I've actually already been approved for a return on my Nexus 7, so this question is mostly out of curiosity.

Have people been using the headphone jack and finding it fine? On mine it is super flakey. I have to very slowly work my headphone plug in and out of the Jack until it makes a connection. It then often loses the connection as soon as I let go, so I usually have to go thru this process several times when I first plug in my headphones. If the jack gets jostled, then I often have to do it all over again.

I was kind of surprised not to hear of others with this issue, but it gives me hope that I just got a lemon (I also have the issue where the screen pops up on the left side and holding it there makes the LCD ripple).

I guess I just want confirmation that the jack is fine on most peoples' Nexi so that I probably won't have this issue on my replacement.

Too bad ASUS is having all the quality control issues, because fr the most part I absolutely love the tablet.

Yep, looks like I've got the same headphone jack issue. Can't get any sound.
Presumably a manufacturing issue. Any suggestions?

I thought I had that problem too and then someone said that the tablet goes to mute with headphone so you need to increase the volume.. It may have 2 different volume connections. Long story short, mine works fine now after I saw the volume slider was muted after plugging in headphones.

i think my issue is a little different than the latest reports, because the sound would play thru my headphones after wiggling my headphone plug around quite a bit. also, when the audio wasn't playing thru my headphones (even when plugged in) it would play thru the speaker on the Nexus. this was particularly embarrassing the first time it happened because i was on a plane.

I've noticed that on my son's the headphone jack is very tight. It seemed like it is all that way in but the external sound was flaking in and out. I gave a little more pressure and felt the tiniest click as it seated properly. Worked fine after that.

dang. you know what, i just tried that and i think that's my issue! i would never have thought of pressing that hard, but it seems like it seats fine now. good thing mine also had the screen issue, or i would feel pretty bad for requesting a return. sort of embarrassing that i didn't figure that out, but at least one mine you really have to push it in hard.

No matter how hard I tried to force the earphone plug, it would not go in all the way. I just returned mine. The USB port was also a tight fit, but started working okay after several attempts. Peering down the port I saw the quality of the port was inferior. Just made me wonder. The screen was not an issue. I really did like this tablet, but am apprehensive about the build quality.

OMG I was just about to RMA my N7 over this very issue and decided search online one last time first and found this thread.

When I first got it I couldn't seem to get the headphone jack plugged in all the way, and my daughter discovered that you have to plug it in REALLY HARD. After that I was able to use it...but then the right channel started going out randomly. This was driving me bananas because I have a lot of music uploaded and I like to watch Netflix and recorded TV on the N7...and trying to listen on the crappy little speakers is oh so unfulfilling.

I even bought a Bluetooth headset, but I like my wired headsets a lot better.

Anyhow, after reading this thread, I pushed HARD, then I pushed REALLY HARD, and then I pushed REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD and VOILA! it worked!

I'm losing sound in one headphone after owning the n7 about 6 weeks. It isn't a matter of pushing hard. I'm still working it all out but tapping the screen near the jack seems to bring it back. Must be a bad solder connection. I'm really tempted to try and fix it rather than wait weeks for a return. Has anyone tried?

I've had mine for several months and sometimes watch movies in bed with headphones. I think that it is a little on the snug side but maybe that's because the tablet is so thin. I've never had problems with the headphones working though. I do wish that the volume level would go up a little higher. It might be my headphones on that one.

I'd say go for an RMA if you have an issue. Google's had a few hardware issues and I'm sure that they want happy tablet customers.
