Love my Droid, but some issues.

I've had this thing for less than 3 days thus far. There's plenty of things I love, a few things I hate. But first, a few of the latter:

- No hands-free dialing with bluetooth. What the heck, voice activated commands are on the phone. It's a simple link to make it work, Google, what's going on?
- When using voice activated calling, it asks you to verify which of the numbers you want to call. Isn't that what defaults are for? Bad, bad design.
- When using voice activated navigation, it doesn't check your contacts list first. Are you seriously asking me to verify which John Smith I'm looking for in the nation when there's only one in my contacts list?
- There's videos that "Cinema" will play just fine that "Gallery" doesn't think is "acceptable". Also, Gallery doesn't check for video deletion.
- Answering calls while the phone's in the media dock/charger is kind of a hassle
- There's no way to "consolidate" multiple calls between the same contact in a row. This means that a round of phone tag will use up every entry in your list.

And of course, some issues:

I used iTunes to convert my entire collection (Apple Lossless) to a new folder in HE-AAC format. When playing on the Droid, the songs sound fantastic, but come with two major caveats:

1. Occasionally it will stop playing. Period. No next song, no funny noise, it just stops playing. This is while locked; the screen is off.
2. It doesn't detect all the songs. There's about 5500, so I'm not sure if there's an upper song limit or if there's something in the filename or tag that the Android's default music player can't read. It's kind of annoying tho.

Also, I downloaded an app to "Enable Bluetooth Music Buttons" in non-default apps. After clicking its "Enable" button, Bluetooth music buttons no longer work in anything. Is there a fix for my dumb mistake? Factory reset, perhaps?

The common stuff (it's heavy as sin, battery life isn't so hot) about the Droid specifically isn't as much of a problem. I'm well aware how much Motorola crammed in there and I appreciate that they did so while keeping the battery and internal memory removable to boot. I kinda just wished they'd packed a Mini-USB to Micro-USB adapter just so I could use my old car plug.

Anyone know of a good case for this thing? Something that stays wrapped around it?

Wow, that was quite a list. As far as the handsfree calling, I've never tried it. I just use my Contacts list and for frequent contacts I just put Direct Dial Shortcuts on my Home screen. As far as music goes, I've had the Droid stop playing a couple of times, but it's been really rare, so I just re-start the player. It is heavy, which I like b/c it doesn't feel like a kid's phone or a Jitterbug (like my BB Curve did) and the battery life issue is an issue with batteries, not the phone. As consumers we can't demand more features, and get better battery life until battery technology catches up with device technology. I just charge from my PC as needed and am happy I can browse the Internet on my phone as needed.

I got the Body Glove case and hate it; it makes the phone huge and is arduous to take off when putting the phone in a cradle. A lot of users on here use the Innocase, check it out on Amazon. I also have a screen protector on mine, but it doesn't seem like a lot of people use them.

Overall, there are going to be some glitches with an open platform, but I'll take it over Big Brother control.

I use the voice command more as a toy on google search. If it didnt ask you to comfirm a location or number. bet you would complain about it loaded the wrong destination or called the wrong person.

take the phone as it is. there is no perfect phone to please anyone. I know my droid screen touch is very sensitive but learned to work with it. also it will load stuff like navagation or pandora and I dont even touch the phone. but over all I am pleased and my battery life seems good. I can play pandora for 8 hour straight at work and still have 1/2 life left and that includes surfing the web at times during work.

maybe theres a problem with some of the things you listed and take it back ans see if they cant give you another one.

i wish my battery would last that long holly shit lol, mine last about 3-4 hours of constant use,5-6 if not used every 15-30minutes, and 8 if i just leave it alone, but idk now i just did alot of changes to it "overclocking and widgets and apps" and i set setcpu to power save profile 550min 1000max and fell asleep listening to music via droid live "love it" And bed time was about 1am, woke up at 6:30 to find it sitting at about 50% life but music had stopped probably due to wifi drop again.

Love the Droid, but some honest complaints:

- calendar will not sync up to Google calendar, only down to Droid - known issue
- calendar cannot color code events and the week view does not highlight the day your on and can't set to start on Monday
- can't hide or delete stock junk apps like Amazon MP3 or Farcebook, etc.
- laughably tiny internal memory and no way to save apps to the SD card!
- battery life could be better
- don't like that apps start in the background - in "preparation" to maybe be used - despite not be started or used
- voice dial is worthless at best, a smoke signal is better
- no internal device search feature (have to use PowerSearch)
- visual voice mail is often very delayed

Does the Droid have a song limit? I counted about 160-170 albums (8 albums per "page", I counted about 21 pages of albums) in my song list, but there's 327 albums in that folder. It's about 5400 songs total. They're all HE-AAC (mass converted in iTunes from Apple Lossless sources).

use Google Gesture for internal searches, I LOVE this program and have it defaulted to search my music only.. which is does amazingly!

no calender! duh to them

frankly, "contacts, bookmarks, applications, and music" are not worth it to me. I know my contacts, why would I ever "search" for one. Bookmarks, not enough. Applications, again, I know what I have, why search when I can flick and scroll? Music... maybe useful BUT I have an iPod.

I use Power Search and pretty sure it cam do ALL those AND the calendar.

Apparently the music problem is a glitch in the Android's music library builder. All the songs that wouldn't load loaded just fine when I formatted the card and added them. I'm guessing that at some point in loading the music, something crashed. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't immediately followed up by the program no longer being capable of resuming the build on those items. If there was a simple way to just force the library to rebuild itself, I'd be happy.

I tried DoubleTwist, but they decided to break apart all the "compilation" albums into separate albums for each artist listed in them. It's the STUPIDEST way to organize music (song files should NEVER leave their album folders), and makes it essentially unusable as a sync method.

Sadly, this is still something Apple does right. (too bad about their idiotic need to keep people from syncing to their players in both directions, which is kind of what syncing IS.).

huh?

I had a phone, an MP3 player, a camera, a Palm Pilot, a GPS, a flashlight, a......

... couple hundred bucks!

the secret to content and happiness: lower expectations.

Oh yeah, -and worship google and the droid too!

I didn't realize that people were getting 755 droids from vending machines at Chucky-Cheese. It turns out that lots of grown-ups use stuff to help them keep track of contacts, that they know, because they have more of them than you have fingers and toes!
