Dialer Lag-Is it Fixed?

Can anyone confirm if the dialer has been fixed? Im specifically interested in hearing from people who have re-installed all of their apps/widgets from the original 2.1 leak. I know the phone runs snappier when its been wiped, but most bugs seem to creep in after most apps are restored.

My current dialer (original 2.1 leak) is a steaming pile of fail. I know Im not alone!

I just got a call and it took a good 4 or 5 seconds of ringing before the screen popped up with contact and answer info. So I don't know . It seems to be smoother when I dialed today, quicker. Also I turn my phone off at night. This morning turning it on, everything worked beautifully except my mail widget reverted back to the stock setting where it says HTC and tap to pick your mail client. I will see if it keeps doing this. All in all I am loving the new 2.1!

Sounds like more of the same. The dialer is really my only problem with the original 2.1. (Only other problems, and not important, are the click sound seems to work when it feels like it, and pics in USA Today app don't show up in articles). What exactly are you loving about the new leak? My phone is pretty fast and I haven't heard much about other improvements. Trying to justify wiping my phone with the new leak. Thanks!

it so bad to use the clear call log app!!
i had a call, the dialer frooze tryna answer it...i seen the number and tried to call it back from the call log...yeah it was deleted with the clear call log app!
then i had to call that same person back, i tried to use my call log to find the number...yeah they were deleted!
never again.
plus my dialer still was slow even when i set it to zero!!

I agree that having to clear the log is a PITA, and hopefully it's not something that will be necessary with the final release. However I just chalk it up to the price paid for being an early adopter of unreleased software.

Aleis, I'm not running an app for this, just when I notice the dialer start to slow down I open CallHistory and clear the log. This is one of those deals where I can't justify downloading an app to do something that I only have to do once a week or so, and takes me just a few seconds to do. For that, it's not worth using space in the phone for an app, IMO.

I am using 1.5 still, and I hate the Phone app. When I open the app after a call, and I want to quickly call someone at the top of the list, I click the name... then right as I'm clicking it, the list "refreshes" to show the most recent call on the top (where it should've already been), pushing everyone else down, and I end up clicking on the wrong name, making a call I did not intend to make. Then I have to press End Call, but it lags and I'm not sure if it registered, so I press it again... but the screen refreshes, and it turns out that I actually hit the "Call" button and called the same wrong person yet again.

So frustrating...

Anyway, is that the "lag" you guys are talking about? If so, I hope that is fixed in 2.1...

I cant say about the most recent release (but I have my doubts) but the problem with the HORRIBLE dialer was in 1.5 AND the original leaked 2.1.

For the life of me I dont know how a phone company could release A PHONE where the primary feature (PHONE) works so poorly....

Its a shame too because with 2.1 I LOVE, I mean LOVE!! everything about the Eris (and by extension HTC and VZW) - I just wish someone would FIX THE PHONE

Wow. Quite a thread.

Everything is great with the leak but the phone doesn't work? Deal breaker for me; my phone is in use all day long.

I've seen a few posts about lag with the 1.5 phone app, but not "4 to 5 seconds of lag," etc. For me it is nearly instant from the first ring to seeing the answer screen.

If I did not know better I would get the impression that the developers are more-or-less just leaving the phone functions in a much lower priority than other functions in the device.

Yes, that is exactly the kind of stuff we're talking about, and I see all that same stuff. A bit of advice though, use the hard green and red buttons rather than using the touchscreen to answer and end calls. It helps a lot if you get into this habit.

It's a shame really as the Eris obviously has MORE than enough power to operate the phone app with blazing speed if only it was given more resources and priority. There really is no excuse to have ANY lag with the phone.

Frisco - I have to disagree I had 1.5 from day 1 and now have 2.1 - this is NOT an update issue, it is a crappy dialer issue - across both iterations

Ok. However, I have no such issue on my 1.5.

I do sometimes see a delay of a second or so, but that seems within normal operation, to me. It seems nearly instant to my experience.

The first part is a little misleading. The phone does work, you know that. A very few people are having some lag/dialer issues, but those are rare. Since you have a phone that doesn't even lag in 1.5 I'm sure the OTA or leak 2.1 will work just fine for you.

as caddyman has suggested in another thread here(too lazy to post a link) dialer lag can be attributed to call history. Anyone with lag issues should try clearing that out.

as Frisco stated in the new leak thread, routine service goes a long way to eliminating most of the problems people post about on here. Clear your cache, text messages, call history periodically.

Well I'm running the new leak and I don't see any difference in the dialer. Still a 3-4 second lag. The proximity sensor is still hit or miss as well (which is kind of a big deal). To be honest, the only change that Ive noticed is the addition of the "get more htc widgets" button working. And those aren't exactly anything to write home about. A few apps are missing. I don't really see any increase in speed. Could have stayed with the original 2.1 I guess. Still love my Eris, just wish i could've saved myself the 2 hour re-installing of apps and what not. Thanks for everyones input!
