Few (simple) questions about the Hero

Hello all. I'm very excited about this phone, it's coming out here in the first or second week of September. I have a few questions about the Hero:

1. What is the email service like for POP mail, is it fast? Is it easy to download attachments onto the SD card (like it is with the Magic)?

2. Can you download Astro file manager on the Hero?

Simple answers are appreciated, however if you could post a video or a few pictures showing us around the email client and showing how to download attachments, that would be awesome, but only if you feel like doing it.

Thanks.

They have exactly the same specs except for the camera. Yes, it has a nicer UI but that's about it.

If you are refering to the fact that they both use the same processor and have the same amount of ram then yes that is true but when you compare the rest of it they are not the same different cameras Hero has a 5mp where magic/mytouch3g has 3.2, different body and weight, different battery, Hero has a 3.5mm head phone jack, supported video formats are not the same.... and they UI is an easy fix since they both run the same OS, yes many things will be "similar" but no they are not the same and when someone is trying to make a decision or needs help please do not further the issue by misstating facts...

Fine. Point is that the hero can do anything the magic can.

It would be nicer to have my original two questions answered by Hero owners who have experienced what I'm asking about (email / downloading attachments / astro) rather than some generic answer. Thanks for your input anyway. The email system/sd card are the main reasons why I'm heavily considering the Hero. The iPhone does not allow for downloading attachments (there is no option anywhere), and as for Blackberry, well the touchscreen Blackberry doesn't have any WiFi. So you can see why I need someone who can confirm what I'm asking, as I'm basing my $550-600 purchase on your word.

1) Plain and simple you will be able to download and save attachments from your browser, email and messages quickly regardless of which phone you get.... they will both run on the same OS only difference is one has HTC sense UI added ontop (this doubles the size of the OS build and internal memory used) (it also is much slower than the stock base android when using the HTC sense UI)

2) Yes, you can download any of the apps for either phone as they are both android based and will both have the same market and apps available to them...

well I don't have the hero but I am running an unmodified hero rom on my magic. In the mail app I can save attachments to the sd card. Just click on them and it comes up with that option.

I have astro running just fine as well. It's still android. It can do everything the magic can and more.

If you are running a Hero Rom/build on your magic it has been modified and ported and is most likely still incomplete, meaning blue tooth doesn't work along with the few minor bugs... although the JACHero builds are very nice and getting faster they still have a LONG way to go if you want "function" instead of the "flash" of the UI.

That has absolutely nothing to do with this post..
I said nothing about speed or bluetooth. I was talking about the mail app which should be exactly the same..

By unmodified I meant that nothing has been added except root access. Obviously some things had to be changed but it still acts just like a hero.

The sense UI isn't really that slow at all and with the update coming soon it should be much faster.

The reason I am correcting you is because you are posting misleading and incorrect information to someone who is asking for help and rather than deleting your posts from the thread so people don't get confused I simply elaborated on what was right and corrected the false information... If you have an issue with me elaborating and correcting things for people who need help that is not my problem and if you have anything else you'd like to say to me send me a pm....
