Root Need HELP Getting Back to Stock

I rooted my Rezound per Scotty's "Noob Guide" and I want to get back to stock recovery in order to update to ICS. No matter what I do, I'm getting the red exclamation mark on reboot.

I've followed Scotty's guide but I keep getting that error. Initially my device was s-off but checking it now it shows s-on. I'm not sure how this happened but I'm confused and frustrated.

Also when I boot into recovery, it tells me "no image found" (I assume it means on my SD card, but I don't know for sure)

Can someone please help me. I'm new to Android so pardon my ignorance in advance.

I need to get back to *stock* firmware. Thanks

just go to the 2nd post of http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...ys-noob-friendly-root-guide-start-finish.html and follow the directions starting at method #2)"full ruu" method to unroot :)

when launching the recovery, make sure the image name in the fastboot boot command matches the exact name of the image in your miniadb_vigor folder.

recovery-ra-vigor-3.14-gnm.img is given as an example, but your recovery may be named slightly different.

the generalized command is:
fastboot boot exactrecoveryname.img

also, make sure the recovery youre trying to launch is an .img, and not a .zip file

scotty85, you are a LIFESAVER!!! Your suggestion worked perfectly.

After I install the ICS update, do I need to ROOT again from the beginning of your guide (ie starting w/ Step 1, including the "unlock with htcdev")?

** I only want to TEMP root **

Also do I use the "ra-vigor-3.15-gnm" as that's the latest one?

awsome! glad you got it.

you dont really need to start at step one,you allready have an unlock token, and it will work. so youll just need to start at the point where you flash the unlock token to unlock :)

yes,use amon 3.15.it is the latest

youll need to use this superuser for root.3.07 wont work on ICS:
[16.07.2012] SuperSU v0.94 - xda-developers

Why do you recommend method #2 here instead of method #1 (which you seem to prefer in the other thread)?

As a Mac user, I can follow the steps in method #1 from a terminal session, but I have no quick way to run an executable file. Just wondering if following the first method would also get me back to stock if I wanted to check out the "official" ICS update.

Turns out I didn't need either option as I was "a good boy" and followed Scotty's instructions the first time which included making a backup of my stock ROM. After booting into a temporary recovery and backing up my custom ICS ROM, I restored my original setup from May, and upgraded to the official ICS via VZW's update. ;)

I am on mac too, although I have crossover (WINE windows emulator) installed to let me run RUUs if I need to.

I think scotty was referring the OP on this thread to method 2 because it is a bit simpler. In the other thread, he recommends the mini-RUU because a) it is slightly smaller in size than the full RUU b) Running the mini-RUU does not require you to do the re-locking step, like you do with method 1.

Per Scotty on another thread where he helped me:
the mini-ruu is in the 2nd post of Scottys noob friendly root guide-start to finish

basically, its just the stock boot, system, and recovery images. it lets you go back to stock without having to relock the bootloader. since the s-on unlocked hboot is prtecting hboot, radio, etc, there arent many situations where relocking and running the full ruu should be needed.

it just saves a little time, since to run the full ruu,you need to relock, run ruu, then re-unlock. all of wich will require multiple reboots

EDIT: OK, cool. Good to know. I have a stock GB backup as well so I will give that a try.

scotty, or anyone else, I'm following Method #2 (Full RUU method) when unlocking/going back to stock. Everything's great except when I get to the part of checking main version.

What if my main version says 1.00.000.1 instead of 1.00.000.0? Is it safe to still run the RUU exe file?

Just making sure I don't do anything noobishly stupid :)

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Nvmind. I think I'll just opt for Method #1 instead. In that screenshot the 1.00.000.1 is what we want to see. I'm just trying not to mess up here lol.

Scotty I'm planning on re-rooting after I got the OTA ICS update....but does rooting completely wipe all user data on the Rezound?

If so, is there a way around this - so I don't have to set-up and re-install EVERYTHING all over again?

Thanks.

dont unroot. :)

if you relock,re-unlocking will wipe your data. no way around that.

you dont need to be completely stock, meaning you dont need to relock. if youve deleted some apps that you need back for the update to work, you can use the first part of this to restore stock GB,and then restore your data: http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...-manually-update-ics-without-losing-data.html

you can try and update manually,or just use the first steps to get your software ready.

if youre on 2.10 hboot, you wont get the OTA until youve run an ruu to get yourself completely on the 2.01.605.11 software and firmware.

so youll need to:
-backup data
-relock and run full ruu
-reunlock and restore data

at that point you can install updates manually or wait for OTA.

Scotty, I was previously rooted but I followed your instructions in Post #2 of this thread a couple of days ago and I'm running stock ICS.

Do I need to UNLOCK my phone again with the token (which will wipe my data, correct) BEFORE rooting it.....OR is it already unlocked and I just need to re-root?

if youre running acompletely stock, full ICS leak(complete with ICS firmware),you will not likely get the OTA. you will have to run the full ruu for 3.14.605.12,wich will require you to relock.

you will then unlock after, and flash superSU to root [16.07.2012] SuperSU v0.94 - xda-developers (or just flash a rooted rom)
