Controlling S3 with headphone controls?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there is an app that allows you to use headphone controls to

A. Fast forward and rewind

and

B. Activate S Voice (For things like calling and directions without having to unlock)

I miss the iPhone controls. It's nice not having to pull the phone out of your pocket for little things like rewinding podcasts/audiobooks or checking the time. I would really appreciate any advice you might have. I spend a lot of time listening to podcasts, getting interrupted, then rewinding podcasts.

Same here. I came from a Rezound, and the supplied headphones (iBeats) had ffw, rew, & pause. I tried them out in my S3 and the ffw & rew controlled the volume just like the ones supplied with the S3. So it should be able to be changed in software but we'd probably have to be rooted to accomplish it. It would definitely help battery life not having to turn on the screen every time I want to change songs. A section in the settings that would allow you to toggle the headphone button functions. Say option 1 would be volume up, pause, & volume down, option 2 would be ffw, pause, & rew, etc.

I can't imagine it would be that difficult to implement, and would really add to the functionality of the phone.

Thanks, but what I'm looking for is an app that'll leave the play/pause button the same and let me assign the + side of the +/- rocker button be next track/ffw & the - side be prev track/rew, like it was on my Rezound. I found one app that said it would give me that function, but basically left it the same as before. I don't know why they opted for having the +/- be for volume control, since that can be adjusted on the side of the phone. So now I've got 2 places to adjust volume control & none for prev/next track, unless I turn on the screen. But if you jump around tracks a lot like I do, it kills the battery. On the Rezound I could leave the screen off, have complete control of which tracks I wanted to listen to, and an hour of listening would drop the battery about a percent or 2. On the S3 with the same listening habits, an hour of listening will net me a 6-8% loss. Guess I'll have to live with it.

if you have the Samsung headphones you do know that you can skip to the next track by pausing twice quickly right? (that third seemingly useless button has a dual purpose) , and that actually skips to next song if done right, sure you cant go back but its something, it also lets you answer phone calls i think but i haven't tested it but it does have a mic built in so it should.

This is an important issue because the alternative is constantly digging your phone out of your pocket, unlocking, finding your music app, and ultimately wasting battery.

I've also found the stock s3 headphones don't have a very good mic. When I'm talking with people they say it sounds like I'm in a chamber or something. Never had this with the stock iPhone buds.

Any suggestions for a good pair of earbuds with more control and mic quality for the GS3?

I'm too having the same disappointement. By looking through the various forums, it seems the audio management in Android is difficult to handle...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you need to find the very complicated combination of:
- an app which allows you to control your earphone buttons with fast forward/rewind
- this needs to be compatible with your earphones
- this app needs to be compatible with your media player. If you use two different media player for music and for podcast, the earphone app needs to be compatible with both media apps
I prefer not to look back at my old iphone. One earphone 'iphone compatible', one app (itunes), it works, it's that simple...
So far, I have not been able to fix this. But I have not been willing to purchase apps (the S3 is expensive enough as it is...).
I have to admit this is very frustrating...

So please, guys, helps us out!

The incl headset supports vol +/-, next track/previous track and start/stop/pause. For track double click the bottom button; for previous track triple click it.

My Motorola s9 stereo Bluetooth has full audio control (vol +/-, ff, rew, pause, stop, start, skip forward and back). Works for video as well.

Don't think the s3 supports voice commands via headphones from blank/sleep screen tho( it will from lock screen with proper settings); if it does I haven't found a way to use it.

This is not true. Yes you can control volume and track with the included galaxy s3 headphones but the bottom button only pauses (one click) and next track (two click). Triple click does nothing but go to the next track and then pauses. No previous track controls. Man I wish you were right this is ridiculous that nobody has created music and volume control headphones for what is now the top selling phone in the world.

Here is a Tasker profile listening for the Media Button (Play/Pause/Answer button on the remote of default S3 headphones) being pressed and launches the Google voice search (I like it better than S Voice but nothing stops you from launching S Voice instead).

Profile: Remote Button Pressed (27)
State: Media Button [ Button:play Held Down:Off Grab:On Stop Event:Off ]
Enter: Google Search (28)
A1: Load App [ App:Voice Search Data: Exclude From Recent Apps:Off ]

Grab is to override the Music play/pause default action.

Let me know if that's what you wanted to do!
