how to boost 3g in stock 2.3.6

This is for metro pcs root and non root
This Phone uses a Qualcomm CDMA chipset so it can be modified using a program called QPST.

1- Download QPST (Free Software, Click Here)

2- Get your own SPC Number Click Here & Enter Your MEID. That will be your key to unlock the phone and your password. Your MEID could be found at Settings->About Phone->Status ... it's all numbers

3- Got to Start-->All Programs-->QPST-->QPST Configuration.

4- Select your phone from the list (the phone should be in Debug Mode).

5- If you don't see your phone Click on "Add New Port" uncheck "Show Serial and select the port and add it.

6- With your phone selected go to Start Clients-->Service Programing. Select the phone and click OK.

7- If a dialog came up telling you to retry click on retry.

8- Click on "Read from Phone" you will be asked for your SPC number to unlock the phone and get its information.

9- Once you have read from the phone, click the save to file button the right side, name and save this file in a safe location.

10- Scroll over to the M.IP tab, about 1/2 the way down you'll see the mobile IP behavior button and change the mobile ip behavior to: simple IP only.

11. (optional) Go up on the same tab and look @ the User Profile, 3rd tab on it is the NAI witch will look like "yourphonenumber"@xxxx.mymetropcs.com. highlight it and click the edit button. edit the NAI to "yourphonenumber@mymetropcs.com" this will help when you want to tether your phone.

12- (optional)** Now on the main tabs bar, click over to the right till you see the PPP config tab, now check the UM tab, now look @ the bottom where it shows the special settings. the primary and secondary DNS server settings should be empty, type in 8.8.8.8 as the primary and 8.8.4.4 as the secondary. these are googles DNS settings.

14- Now click the Write to Phone box on the bottom left. the phone should restart by itself.

**in some cases option 12 dosnt help, from my experiences it helps out with some stability when browsing the web with the phone and with my old ascend it actually increased the 3g speed even more.

the speeds i was getting using the SpeedTest.net app from the Play store. all taken 3 times while chooseing the best out of all 3.
1st (stock 3g) DL: 432 kbps UL: 214 Kbps
2nd (modified 3g with google dns)DL: 648 Kbps UL: 409 Kbps
3rd (just modified 3g) DL 832 Kbps UL: 519 Kps

your service speeds will vary in different locations. ive seen some metro phones get over 1.3 Mb/s Down and 600 UP when there in a full service area.

Disclaimer: i take no responsibly if you screw something up, you should make all the appropriate backups before attempting this modification. if you don't have any idea what your looking at i suggest you do more research before you do this mod.. -TVIS

I'm trying to get this to work, but QPST won't recognize my phone. It doesn't show up on the "active phones" list, and when I go to "add port" it shows an active phone that is not my phone. It has a different phone number. Any help?

That is your phone. It confused me at first, as well. Once you connect and select the button that says read from phone (or some thing like that) you will see you correct phone number listed in one of the blocks. If you look on your phone in settings > about phone you will see an entry called min. This is the number that you are seeing listed as your phone number.

What did you mean by this? The phone, by default, doesn't have the ability to tether. Are you saying that by editing the NAI, it will allow the phone to tether?

Thanks, man. I was able to do this. However, it actually killed my data. I still had a signal, but it would not connect to the internet. So I just ended up changing it back.
