Root Can't get themes or get rid of apps

Alright I've rooted to Joeykrim 1.9.5 and I can't put themes ON. Also I can't find an UNCOMPLICATED way to get rid of unwanted apps. I think its because MAx's recovery isn't loaded but IDK. I've tried the volume, speak, end to load themes but doesn't work. Anyone give me a hand??

load max's recover_2.0 the same way you load joeys rom (with sprint update tool) and then you'll be able to use "volume down + talk + end" to open max's recovery... once that is done, you'll be able to apply the themes through the sd car and the recovery tool... that said, you want to look for and download protectsu-0.2.zip using recovery2.0 (this allows super user access through the phone)... after that is installed and booted, go to the market and download "Titanium Backup"... also make sure "USB Debugging" is enabled...

once everything is done, happy customizing! :)

Hey Joey, thank you for your help!! Since I'm new it helps that people will lend us a hand... When I get home tonight I'll get these downloaded and get them on my phone. Once I get up and running hopefully I'll be able to help others too... BTW, for those reading this, I've noticed a BIG difference in battery, signal, and overall speed WO even deleting any programs with Joeykrim 1.9.5! It ROCKS!!

I guess I forgot to specify a little further... the sprint update tool can only flash "tar" files and the link I posted is for a "7z"... so, you need to extract the "tar" file that is contained in the "7z" to the same directory where you placed joeykrims kernel... after that, you can use the sprint update tool to flash max's recovery to your phone...

FYI, sprint update tool can ONLY flash "tar" files... max's recovery can only apply "zip" files, whether they are they are themes or updates to the roms...

that said, the file I posted for protectsu is a "zip" file, so you would use recovery 2.0 to apply it... hope that helps and post up if you have more questions :)

I kind of figured that and I did extract the max file I thought (it didn't have the 7z at the end). Its got to be with that file. So when I get home tonight ill just delete the files and start from scratch with the recovery. I was fustrated by the end last and I'm sure I jacked something up. Usually starting over on a clean download and following the proper steps fixes itself... ill let you know how it goes.... and again, thank you for the help and great info!!

also, when you go into your phone info (about phone), make sure that joey's kernel shows up under build number to ensure you do have root...

Alright, I'm up and running and got a theme loaded. Pretty cool stuff. The problem now? I've downloaded more themes from over at SDX and the one I loaded was a true zip file. The others I downloaded were .efw. what are those? I've tried unzipping them and rezipping to no avail. Is there some sort of idiot guide for this? Its fustrating because I have to look in like 20 different places to find answers and it only answer PART of the question each time. So if someone could please explain how to use a theme from SDX with the file ext .efw in terms a 3rd grader could understand I'd REALLY appreciate it....

If you are seeing those files you unzipped the theme and aren't going to get it in peice by piece. You'll have to download again or use the original zip file! Put it in the root of ur sd card and recovery 2.0 ... there are different downloads available at sdx for theme developers too! So make sure you read that forum as well and make sure the themes you download are already compiled and ready for easy install. We don't wanna go through the headache of repeating earlier steps for no reason. Its always good to ask and learn!

I didn't unzip the file IT DOWNLOADED that way. I just thought someone else might have had this same problem. I'll figure it out. Thanks

do you have an example of a theme you tried to download?

i'm thinking that maybe when going to the hotfile or mediafire links, something went wrong. all themes should be in .zip format; and even if you're editing it piece by piece, then those should be .apk's or xml edits...
