Application to write SMS with PC Keyboard

Hi everyone.

I send a lot of sms messages everyday and I'd like to write them using my PC keyboard... then this text should be sent to my Htc Magic which sends it to a specified number.

I used to do that with Nokia PC Suite...

Is there any software that can help me???! Thanks.

I'd like this too. I used to use it all the time with N96/PC Suite.

Someone could make a pretty penny if they made this app, and decided to charge for it. I'd happily pay a quid

I'll add a "me to" to this. I have an HTC hero and I expected an app like this to be easy to find.

i used to do it on my Nokia with PC Suite and on my Sony Ericsson with either FMA or MyPhoneExplorer. There must be an Android version.... anyone?

If i am setting at the PC, (which i am most of the day) and I want to send SMS msg to a friend and dont want to use the phone ...

I just use my Gmail account ... Pull up the person's contact info ... copy their phone number and paste it into my 'Compose' TO: field...

then I add the carrier sms server address .and send the msg ...

eXample : xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net .... then any msg i send to that phone number will be recieved by that person as a txt msg.. their Reply will come to my email account in the same thread and then it is easy to keep a thread going and just do all the typing of my messages from the PC ...

Most Carriers have this facility for the subscribers.. AT&T, Sprint, I recall seeing some where a list of the email address @????????.??? that you use for many of the carriers on the web somewhere ... (will try to find and post it later)

Thanks, bur surely that means you'd be messing around finding the gateways and having to know what network people were on before you texted them.

I did hunt down the suposed domain for T-mobile UK (@t-mobile.uk.net) and it doesn't work delivering an SMS to myself. (I tried @tmomail.net as well, just in case). The UK may be different from where you are.

It would in my opinon be an alround neater solution to have a desk top app. The ones I've used for Sony and Nokia were extremely handy and their other archiving features were a bonus.

Well, of course the SMS/Mail method is only a work-around. The soulution is BlueTooth... But until Google enables those driversAPIs then BT keyboards are only a dream .... but not out of the possibility ...

Yes - I have to admit I was very surprised by the lack of Bluetoothyness on the Hero - I've been using things like Bluetooth sending of contacts and pictures, Bluetooth syncing, and a Bluetooth data connection to my TomTom satnav for literally years, all of which are no longer possible on one of the newest smart phones. I wonder what their thinking was it not making this available; was there no open stack?

My understanding is that they considered BT and the open structure of the phone to have security risks ... so they even postponed the inclusion of BT for stero headsets until the Cupcake Update 1.5 ...

So files can be sent/recvd if you are rooted .... and if the OBEX drivers between the two devices match...

But I feel eventually full BT will be implemented ... would love to be able to use my old portable/foldable BT keyboard .. that worked like a charm on my SE 990i

I think they will have to, it's almost a minimum expectation on "normal" phones.

But back on topic, I guess sooner or later a PC based SMS front end will emerge. Hmmm maybe I should read up on Android development. (Don't hold your breath for that!)

I've looked at DesktopSMS, EasySMS, RemoteSMS and Droid Messenger.

Droid Messenger has you go through their website, which is a deal breaker for anyone who cares about the privacy of their text messages.

DekstopSMS is full of bugs and hasn't been maintained since August 2009.

I haven't tried RemoteSMS but the free version only supports WiFi and at work my laptop is on a network that my Android can't access, so I couldn't use it there.

EasySMS is the winner. Open-source, free with an option to donate 1 EUR for messages longer than 160 chars, with author actively working on the few outstanding issues, SMS threads are displayed in the browser over a local connection to the phone (no information leaves the phone or your computer). Worked fine over USB, including the in-browser notifications of new SMSes.

I can send SMS from Gmail to anyone just by knowing the phone number.

This is probably because I use Google Voice though.

This software allows you to compose any number of sms from computer. Once done, you can send all the messages on click of a button from your mobile.

I use the TSwipe PRo android keyboard, and beside being a mullti-lingual, keyboard that allows swipe action and many ways to customise, it has a feature called web key. If you are on the same wifi lan with a PC and browser you punch in the ip of the phone and a particular port number (that displays on the keyboard) then in the desktop browser you get a small window. Anything you type into the browser is sent to the phone and input just as it would if you typed it on the phone.

How about voice input? A.k.a. dictation. Directly into the phone. Have you ever considered that? I do it all the time. Makes me much more independent of keyboards, large and small. And it's fast: saves me a lot of time. Especially convenient when on the road.


Demo: I dictated this section directly on my phone. 2 corrections. Obviously YMMV.

Hi, I had the same problem and recently found simple application smslemon.com. So far it works excellent.
