I picked up a One S on their free deal a few nights back and I'm selling it online and using a phone I already had. However, I want to make sure I get my rebate so I just thought I see if anyone on here has any experience one here doing this.

The requirements are such

1. Submitted materials validated by TM.
2. must have an active account
3. must use phone for at least one call.

I took the phone out and used the included sim to make a call to my old phone. Other than that, I should be able to package it up and sell it right? I shouldn't need the phone for anything else.

Also, if anyone on here is interested let me know. I'm not trying to advertise here, just a mention.

Hmmm, I am not sure that making a phone call to a phone that is disconnected will qualifiy as your one phone call.
Why don't you sell your old phone, and keep the new One S?
Then when you get tired of it, sell it, and get whatever newer one you want down the road?

well I didn't explain myself well. My "old phone" is a motorola triumph on virgin mobile with a number I will be porting. My phone I will be using on T-Mobile is a Sensation I just bought on Craiglist. I got the One S for free. i'm planning on selling it new, selling my triumph, and switching to the Sensation as my main phone. Then in a month or two I'll buy a S3 and sell the sensation. Complicated yes, but I'm doing it for a good price overall on the S3. I'm just crazy like that, but if anyone can understand it's my peeps here at AF.

This thread got me thinking...

Would this work:

1. Buy an HTC One S for free (Back when this offer was going)
2. Make one phone call
3. Have an active account
4. Submitted material
5. Cancel contract $275
6. Sell HTC One S ($400)

Make a profit of $100 or so.

No. The rebate takes about 10 weeks. they say 6 to 8 weeks. but you wait 8 weeks for them to "process" it, then have to request the rebate card which takes two weeks to mail and you, and I believe you have to still have the service to activate the card, then you're good. and if you're on the value plan, you still have your $400 "payments" left for the phone and you have to pay that as "existing bills" when you cancel.

Just think of it this way. They're a big company. They have lots of lawyers and accountants. They have all their bases covered. There's not gonna be anyway to legally get past any of this.

Here's what my steps ended up being and it all worked for me.

1. Bough an HTC One S (-$100) and moved my Virgin Mobile Phone number over to it as my primary.
2. Added my corporate discount and got a refund of my activation fee
3. Made one phone call
4. Submitted my rebate
5. Sold it online (got +$415 after fees).
6. Bought a temp phone (-$220)
7. Bought a Nexus (-$385 )when the price dropped and sold the temp phone (+$180).
8. Got my rebate approved.
9. Switched to the Value plan (-$200)
10. got my rebate in. (+$100)

Net cost to me for a brand new Galaxy Nexus was about $210 and I'm now on the Value plan. Given I'm still on contract, but I challenge anyone to find a better wireless deal for two people than a Tmo Value plan with Corporate Discount (assuming you need minutes). It's only a little more than $70/month.
