so like an idiot, dropped my phone and the screen cracked.

but, everything else works in terms of the touch gestures and no damage to the LCD screen.

i don't believe i bought insurance (like an idiot), but its still been under 30 days since i bought it.

any chance AT&T can help me? if not what about samsung?

i want to make this as cheap as possible, i found a glass replacement online for like 20$. like i said the screen is fine and the touch features still work.

thoughts? (im about the cry, im a grown man also, or so i think)

It will not be easy to replace the glass your best bet is AT&T. It will take speciel tools and some skill to take apart your S3. try doing a google search for a breakdown of the S3 lots of times some tech guys like to break it down to see the parts inside. And youtube is you friend look for others that had the same problem. Good Luck I hate to see a grown man cry:eek:

I cracked mine on day 5, no case or holster had been purchased yet. Sprint told me their tech could change the screen for me if I bought one online... as a side job. Their insurance company, Asurion, will not pay them to change screens anymore, as they found out they were changing so many screens, it was not cost effective. Asurion told them to have the customers order a replacement phone. That's what I did and it cost me $150 just like it will cost you.

not THEIR insurance. YOUR own personal insurance.

Mine is 100% full coverage, but some might only have lost/stolen coverage, at which point it might be easier if the phone is "lost" ;)

Oh, and NO deductable either! :D

Well it is the "Premium" plan Sprint offers with your service plan, but you are right, I bought the insurance, so now it is mine.
I guess GS3 must be tier 3... $150

call samsung customer service --- you will send it to texas, pay $179 and 5 days later you will have your new s3 again in perfect working order. It happened to me. back it up because they will wipe it.

Definitely go with the above option - the fact that it's YOUR original phone (not a refurb via insurance) and the fact that Samsung repairs it to their standards WITH their guaranteed OEM parts - at that cost - you can't beat it. If you had to buy the digitizer yourself and do the procedure at your own risk there are too many factors to consider. Just have Samsung do it - guaranteed compatibility, guaranteed work, and unbeatable price.

As I have said before, a felony is never a good solution to a problem. Many homeowner/renter plans may provide some coverage for property damage. The best way to proceed is to ask your agent and then you'll know. They might even be able to suggest the proper way to report it for maximum legal coverage. Take the high road.

Reading these types of posts makes me not regret signing up for that BB Black Tie protection plan. Covers pretty much everything except theft or just plain losing your phone.

I'm a bit of a klutz and dropped my Evo4G in the parking lot at my local grocery store and cracked the glass (had a case on it and it just hit the ground at that perfect angle). Worked fine, no issues but wish I had gotten insurance on it.

With the SiIII not exactly being the sturdiest of phones I thought this time around, I'd better get it.

thanks for your input, just got back from shipping my phone out to texas.

funny thing is, AT&T offers a 10$ a month charge on insurance, but i would have still had to pay a $200 deductible and actually go through a lengthy process to get a new phone.

i considered repairing it myself, but the parts alone costed more as well.

it sucks, it dropped about 3 feet from my pocket to the ground screen first, no case. i hate using cases but i guess ill invest in one now and of course talk to my insurance agent.

for everyone else reading this, death grip your phone every time you take it out of your pocket.

Yup works just like car/home insurance. You have your monthly payment and then your deductible if something happens. Nice racket huh?:)

I know the Black Tie insurance has a zero dollar deductable. Plus if your phone is fixed more than 4 times they give you a new one (although the BB mobile associate I bought my SIII from said if they have the phone in stock they will just swap it out more times than not and not send it off be repaired).

Hard to believe that for just 10 bucks one time, your insurance company will pay you for a new phone if it ever gets lost, stolen or damaged with no deductible.

Even if they do, you need to factor in the potential that they RAISE YOUR RATES once you have a claim. For example, I pay $1200 per year for homeowners insurance with State Farm but that includes a $335 discount for "claim free" record.

So maybe I get a "free phone" but then because I have a claim, then I am paying $335 more each year for the next few years.......

The whole world is dishonest. Why not bask in the glory?

Here are a few good reasons ...

Insurance fraud is a crime under state and federal law. Under Connecticut law, “insurance fraud” is a Class D felony, which is punishable by a fine up to $5,000, up to five years in prison, or both.

Hardly worth it to save a couple of hundred $$$. And just so you know, the whole world is not dishonest. Reality is that the majority of people are honest, moral and live within the boundaries and under the protection of law.

Now, let's not derail this thread. Any further discussion of fraud will get the thread locked.
