Help Issues/comments after installing ICS? Discuss/post here

I'm having a small issue. I just updated to ICS about an hour ago, and it seems to have worked fine..but when I load the stock messaging app, I get a "Please Wait" message that won't go away..I tried restarting.

Several of us had that issue. Leave it plugged in and set to not go to sleep, and let it sit there. Could take half an hour or more. It seems that once it loads, it works fine. Other solution is find the largest thread and delete it. You will have to do the same thing with waiting, and it doesn't always show that it is doing anything, but it will eventually delete, then everything should be fine.

Hopefully that is what your problem is. Seems to have been for everyone that has reported that problem anyway.

Hmm, alright, I've been giving that a go for a while now. It's on the charger, screen awake, sitting on the Please Wait message for well over an hour now..I'll keep it on and see if it changes.

I can't delete a thread either because the Please Wait message appears as soon as I load the app.

EDIT- 3 hours later, it's finally done. Seems to be working now. Thanks :)

I've just noticed another oddity since updating to ICS. When I am at home, I turn my wifi on and mobile data off. My mobile data has been turning itself on. So far, I'm not sure exactly what triggers it, just that when it wake it up after a while, mobile data is back on. I will have to keep a closer eye on it to see if I can figure out what circumstances make it happen.

Greetings to all (especially Don B who helped me many times w my rooted Hero) I just did the update to ICS yesterday and only have minor issues. First was the Gallery did not show up - found a thread about that and now it's hunky dory. I am used to having 3 separate email icons for my 3 accts. Used to just go to shortcuts - select email (or mail) and then select which account the shortcut was for. ICS does not offer Mail or email as a shortcut option. Any thoughts out there? Is there another way to do this?

I have no idea when this actually happened, but i just updated to ICS today and when i was looking through everything i realized that i have ALL of my bookmarks from google on my phone now... before i only had a handful that i used ocassionally on my phone and now i have a TON that are from my computer. I enter lots and lots of contests daily and cycle the bookmarks out as they expire and now they are all on my phone. Ugh. How do i get rid of all of these without having to manually delete all of these individually? Thanks for your help guys!

When I come home my 3VO automatically connects to my home WiFi. I put in on my desk and plug into the charger. After 3 minutes it goes to sleep. When I wake it up it shows 3G, and 10 seconds later it switches back to WiFi. It was doing the same before ICS update.

This is probably by design.

No, that part I am used to seeing. What I am talking about is, Mobile Data actually turns itself on after I have turned it off manually, whether wifi is on or not.

I go to my settings, and turn Mobile Data off. I put my phone to sleep for 5 or 10 seconds, then wake it up. Mobile data is still turned off. Put it to sleep for 5 minutes and wake it up, and mobile data STILL shows up as being off. Put it to sleep and wake it up 30 minutes later, and mobile data shows up as being on within my settings, as well as with the widget toggle.

This isn't a case of the Wifi going to sleep and the mobile data being active for a few seconds until Wifi wakes back up. Mobile data is physically being turned on without interaction from me after I have manually disabled it.

That never happened prior to the update to ICS, and I can see no possible reason for it to be that way by design. I KNOW that this didn't occur prior to ICS because I always turn my mobile data off when I am at home, and on several occasions, I have forgotten to turn it back on when I leave the house, making it so that my GPS maps don't work, because it can't find the network.

Hopefully that clears up the confusion about what situation I am seeing.

Adar, I got it. But what is the reason/purpose to turn Mobile Data off?

I turn the mobile data off purely for battery saving. When I am at home, I get only 1 or 2 bars (despite having a tower literally 2 blocks from my house). This causes me to use an inordinate amount of battery. OK, that may be a bit of hyperbole. However, it is a noticeable increase in battery use if I leave mobile data on. Technically, it shouldn't really matter. When I have the Wifi on, it shouldn't be USING the 3g, so my battery savings are minimal. Due to the behavior of the 3G coming on when Wifi goes to sleep, it DOES tend to end up eating my battery more than I want it to. Now, part of it is probably due to background data, and the various polling that it does for things like email and Facebook.

It isn't really a huge problem per se. Just that the behavior is not what it used to be, and I can see no logical reason for it to behave this way. mobile data should NEVER turn on by itself when I have specifically turned it off. In my case, it is simply a battery saving ploy as to why I turn the mobile data off. For others, it may be due to data usage, or preventing annoying notifications while sleeping, as someone else suggested. Regardless of the reason that someone turns off mobile data, there is no excuse for it to turn itself on without user interaction. I haven't tested this yet, but think of this as a possible situation. What happens if I put the phone in airplane mode, and after it goes to sleep for a while, it turns the mobile data back on? Wouldn't you see that as being a problem?

All in all, this is a pretty minor annoyance to me. Mostly, I was just curios if anyone else has seen the same thing, or if it is something messed up with my phone. I am not rooted, and have no plans to root, so I have no special apps that might be doing it. I don't even have anything like Juice Defender running that might explain wonkiness with radios turning on or off. Possibly something got messed up on my phone when I did the upgrade. It is possible that a factory reset will make the problem go away. A battery pull has had no effect so far, and I haven't found any other setting or app that could conceivably cause this behavior.

Hello everyone. A friend of mine ia having a lot of issues with their EVO 3D since the ICS update. Here are the major ones:

1. When listening to music, if he gets an email or text message the music player locks up.

2. Tons of crashing issues. His phone will just randomly restart. Its happened over 10 times in the last 3 days.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help in advance.

No, you are not going crazy. Panoramic option is just not there.
My mom got the ICS update oon her htc incredible and on the stock camera, it has a big A symbol, labled for scenes, and there it has the option for panoramic view. It's pretty cool. I have the 3vo and didn't get to update yet, so I dont know if it has this "scene" setting on the 3vo... But if someone can help me update my rooted 3vo, that would be helpful, I have no clue how to do this. After i try to update, and my phone reboots, nothing happens. Its still on platform 2.3.4....

this has been said dozens of times in the thread alone...you CANNOT take the OTA update if you are rooted...go to the rooted forum for ways to update to newer software
