So i decided to upgrade from a blacberry to the HTC WILDFIRE S from Virgin Mobile since it was affordable. At first this phone was cool and all but i wanted to be able to screenshot and the app said my phone require rooting. I researched what rooting meant since this is my first android phone. At the same time i could only have 2 or 3 apps before the phone said it was low on space. ( I've already tried moving the apps to memory card) but it still not enough space.

My question is If i root the phone will i be able to screenshot? Does anyone who has this phone from VM has rooted and been able to screenshot. Since this is my first time rooting a phone and i know it is not easy i want to be sure i will be able to free up some space and will be able to screenshot or does rooting not help with thiss phone at all?

Thank You in advance.

Hi,

Rooting is best method to explore the device as Caro said above.

You can increase the internal memory by following this below guide. But can't take screenshots without rooting. (Actually I saw this guide after rooting my phone, But you can go for a try!)

http://androidforums.com/htc-wildfire-s/469775-forcing-apps-install-sd-card-without-root.html

It's not a difficult task to root the device. Just simply follow the rules carefully.

Thanks, i decided to root my phone but as i started i got stuck on the very first step of the [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON (finally!)

The quoted part where it tells me to:
Before you begin, make sure that your computer can properly recognize the phone:

You will need SDK tools for Android, Java runtime, and HTC Sync installed on your Windows computer. If you run Mac, I can

Before i go on, i want to thank you so much for helping me with this!

I did what you said and it said there were No updates available for my phone.
Ok. No worry, you can unlock the Bootloader by following the Step 3A of the guide, for getting the UnLock_code.bin file from htcdev.com and finish with step 3C.

Hope this may be useful.

Okay so i do follow ALL the steps on htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader right?
Currently downloading the Android SDK & HTC Sync.

Do i skip step 3B since my phone is ***Locked*** ?

HTC drivers must be installed on PC. Then only your PC can understand the phone. If you explain the specific problem, so that can help if possible.

Okay heres what i do.
i go to HTC Support Center > where it says HTC Sync (3.2.20) for all HTC Android phones i click download > save it to my desktop > when it finishes downloading, it's saved as htc_sync_setup_3.2.20 application file. > i click on it a box pops up call InstallShield Wizard it says "error reading instalization file"

I think it's a corrupted file. Try once again

or follow this way: (Actually HTC Sync must be on SDCard in the folder "HTC Sync")

  1. Make sure you select USB Debugging in Settings > Applications > Development before connecting your phone to the computer
  2. Connect your Phone to the PC and wait 20 seconds for your phone to install HTC Sync on your phone.
  3. Unplug the USB sync cable. Wait for 5 seconds. Reconnect the Phone to the PC using the USB cable.
  4. Select

I tried that ^ and it still didn't work so i'm downloading the htc sync from another website.

I have another question: I'm on the process of downloading the Android SDK following the instructions from the link on the guide> Howto: Install the Android SDK - CyanogenMod Wiki and i am stuck on step 10.
Step 10 says:
  1. In the "Variable values" section, add at the very end the location of the tools & package-tools folder, with a semicolon separating these two paths from the rest, e.g. %SystemRoot%;C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools;C:\android-sdk-windows\tools.
but my "Variable values" say> C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared

i Don't understand what to do on this step.

It's not a necessary step, since i didn't do it.
But, If you want just do it by: Copy the above bold lines from ";" to "\tools" (no dot) and then click on variable values then press "End" on keyboard, paste it. Thats all.

What is displayed on HBOOT menu? If it's Marvelc, then you have to follow as Caro said.

Wait so at what step of the guide to installing the Android SDK can i stop? or Do i have to follow all the steps?

Oh Fine. It's good to see.

I think you need index of recoveries. right?
For which one, Marvel or Marvelc..?

For Marvel:

For Marvelc:

Yes thank you so much. that's the link i needed.

I proceeded to the next steps of rooting the phone and when i got to step 4e, the super user app is installed and i downloaded SuperSU app like the directions say but when i open the app it says "There is no SU binary installed and superSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Does this mean the phone didnt root correctly?
I've repeated the steps a couple more times and still nothing happens.
i also downloaded a screenshot app and it wont work either because it says my phone is not rooted but i followed all the steps.
:thinking::(
