Finally managed to root.. now what??

my favorite ROM was CynagenMod (although i installed it by accident thinking it was part of the rooting process on a Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V! )

CM7 and up gives you the ability to use wifi tether, basically making your phone into a wireless hotspot for internet. if you have an unlimited data plan this is handy if you're out of sight of internet access or good for basic web browsing if your main internet drops. the bad thing is, and this is experience with my Optimus V, is that speed sucks. your phone may get 3G, but tether seems limited to 9600-14400 bps dial-up speeds

I am also a big supporter of CM ROMs. CM9 is my current and as soon as CM10 is slightly more stable that will be my ROM.

BTW, any phone with root can tether via a 3rd party app regardless of what ROM (stock or custom) you have on your phone.

The bolded statement is not true. I regulary get greater speeds than that tethering my phone to my laptop, fast enough to play WoW while downloading or streaming stuff in the background. Normal speeds I get is approx 512-1mbps for 3G. Off peak hours I get greater than that, sometimes reaching 3mbps. (Note I am in South East Asia now, so slower internet speeds are more common here and 4G isn't mainstream yet).

+1 for custom rom, like cyanogenmod.

Some apps are built in. Can change overclock & voltage settings, do nandroid backup / restore, install apps via recovery, can change the auto brightness how you like it, notification bar widgets, various other customization not found in stock roms without root.
