battery life

My siii has some pretty bad battery life. I was looking into either a replacement extended battery or a case with a battery in it. Any recommendations, favorite brands or advice? I would love if someone had used either and could tell me what kind of battery llous I could be getting.

If your battery life is bad, it could be a faulty battery. More likely its an app or setting.

Please give us what sort of time you get out of your battery plus how much screen on time. Screen shots are best

SUROOT is correct that it is likely an app or sync configured keeping your device awake causing the drain, or a faulty battery. But, if you feel that isn't the issue and want to get some extra juice I would say go with the Hyperion 4000mah battery on Amazon for $16.

Thanks for the quick response and battery advice. I don't think it's an app or anything, my tech savy friend and my tech savy self both have these phones and have combed through the settings and couldn't find anything. Here's a pic of my usage.

I really like what I'm seeing from your picture, I think I may go that route. My only concern is that I will make my phone too bulky.

That doesn't look right. How much screen on time?

Yea... you have something wrong. Screen is low, when thats the biggest drain on the s3. If screen is low, the phone should be sleeping a lot, so cell standby should be top as it drains more than the system when asleep.

This suggests you have a wakelock which keeps your phone awake when the screen is off, keeping your phone running at full speed draining massive amounts of battery life.

FYI: The phone comes with a 2100 mah battery. So 4000 is a little less than double. At your current drain that would be right about 18 hours. Also, 2100 at the size of the stock battery is probably the current max commercial density. So, if you do want a bigger battery, it will definitely make your phone bulkier.

I also recommend avoiding Seidio up there. They have been shown to be over stating their capacity, and charge way more than other companies. 5 times as much in fact.

Finally, it would also help a lot when you post your screen on time pic, with latest main page of course, to also select the graph.... this opens a new window that includes a bar at the bottom showing time awake. If the screen shows off most of the time, but awake almost all the time... you have a wakelock. which is good news as thats very fixable. you could probably get double the battery life by fixing that.

The Hyperion proportionally performs as should for the 4000 size, but small hand folks probably would be best to refrain.

Plus I think it would be better to address the drain issues rather than patching it up with a big battery in the hope it performs as it should with the 2100..

Make sure you don't have any of your accounts trying to sync up picasa and such albums, I had that problem when first configuring my phone and it drained the battery without showing usage from any specific program doing it. Turn off the picasa junk syncs and see if it helps. Also check your task manager to make sure nothing you don't want on is running.

most of the useless stuff closed like gps and location info etc etc. it can hold on 3 days with low usage 2 days on moderate and more than a day in heavy usage
well heavy I mentioned here is like calling people when you do your job or a lil game breaks and texting not sitting and playing for hours when screen brightness maxed and most coloured screen setting all the good things except motion and location sensors(not the screen display sensor but the apps using gps and locating you etc)
it holds 6-7 hours non stop game play with having no battery save settings on.
your battery must be dying too quick cuz of motion sensors they are really heavy on battery even at screen turned off

I have almost everything on all the time, everything syncing wifi for 8 hours, gps on, 4 hours of screen on time.

I've been having poor battery life ever since I got back to my home town from vacation. Battery life improved significantly once I turned off LTE. I was using just 3G/HSPA+ for the past few days. I'm turning LTE back on today to see if it was indeed LTE that was causing the issues.

Not happy with 2100 battery. This was the same as the extended for Nexus which I still had to change almost 3x a day for heavy work. Supplying the SIII with the 2100 is poor judgement. This phone needs a 3300 + battery to supply needed tasks as regular email, downloads and video processing and sending. I am looking to the Hyperion.

I usually prefer to use the various built in stuff as a battery stat app tends to use more of your battery as it logs things. Not a lot by any means, but definitely there.

However, lots of people on here seem to swear by Better Battery Stats, so you could look into that.

An up and coming one that looks interesting is Carat, but it is nowhere near ready for regular use. ( As evidenced by the 0.73 version number. )

Not sure if turning off LTE at the time helped my battery life. I cannot remember exactly when I restarted. I did on Friday when my phone did not connect properly to my car's audio system via BlueTooth. I had to do it again today when I lost my 3G/HSPA/LTE network connection. Restarting fixed those issues.

Then you have too much bloat or renegade apps on your PC. Mine and my wife's only get rebooted on Patch Tuesday (once/month).

re: battery life.

First, if you only go by the displayed estimate, be sure it is calibrated: at full charge, wipe battery stats, reboot, remove from charger until it drains completely, then keep on charger until it has been 100% for a bit.

I got 8-1/2 hrs screen-on time, talking on the phone for ~2 hrs., WiFi on, installing/configuring apps.

That shows not much usage, so what is the real point? Usage is the real measurement, but even that is too subjective to be relevant to anyone but yourself.

I know that battery life is great in medium to good signal areas and is bad in weak signal areas. The GS3 for all its great overall points is a Jekyll and Hyde device as far as battery life and signal.

Best to avoid a lot of data use in weak signal areas. Device runs very warm to hot and the battery life takes a dive.

Great device, but in desperate need of better signal and power management in weak signal areas.

I am referring to the actual app usage. Too subjective for people to compare their own use.

The key battery killer on the GS3 besides the display (as all devices), is weak signal areas when using data. The GS3 is an angel in medium to good signal areas, but a demon in weak signal areas.

Added: 4G battery life really is amazing on medium to good signal areas.
