Root Issue installing CyanogenMod Rom and Recovery

OK, I've downloaded the ROM manager from the market. It says no ROMs found when I hit check now.

I've changed the settings to display all rom updates and experimental roms.

I also don't see where you can have it flash the recovery.

I've downloaded the recovery image. Should I flash that first manually?

Sorry for the noobie questions. I've read the CM forum and not much help there. I ran JRummy's theme through nandroid and it sucked battery life. I don't want to do that again, I want to give this rom a fair shot and do it through the clockwork recovery.

Thanks!

Have run into a couple of issues:

New recovery is was up and running. Downloaded the new ROM. Thank GOD I told it to back up current ROM before I flashed.

Got the CM 5 up and running. Don't like the theme, so downloaded NexTheme, and followed the instructions for running that. Here's where the issues came.

The NexTheme file somehow was corrupted on download. It was only a 30 meg file. I didn't realize that, and when I went to flash, it stopped about 10 seconds in. And of course, when I rebooted, I got locked on the Moto symbol. Thank goodness there was a backup (I now understand how to Nandroid and re-name nandroids with this recovery).

So then it was back to running on Smoked Glass.

Re-Downloaded the Rom Manager, re-installed CM 5.

But the Rom Manager is gone when I install CM. Is this normal?

In any event, I'm flashing NexTheme now, and we'll see what happens when this is loaded. If everything is up and running correctly, I'll start re-building.

This process is a PITA. Trying to figure out what, if anything, I did wrong..

Any time you wipe data you are going to have to download rom manager again. Because his updates are from the market you want to redownload so you know when updates come out.

Makes sense.

Up and running now. I was disappointed to see that Titanium backup had would not carry over my data....

Also, on the NexTheme, the LWP with the leaves has been replaced with one with turtles....lame. Is there an apk with the leaves one anywhere?

Thanks.

Thats my problem with nexTheme its awesome but it replaces way to much and leave you with very little space in the system directory.

Try out the 24k Metamorph theme for Cyanogen....I have been using it for a couple of weeks...really seems to work well on 5.05...

Sure does... and it sure is perty to.. ;)

Dark Se 24K (Gold) Mm Theme! - CyanogenMod Forum

Make sure you turn off Launcher 2 and LWP before you install this theme via Metamorph (get it from the market... it's easy). I made sure that I did the above and also had not setup my screens yet... so basically I knew I was going to 24k when I did a clean sweep of Cyan5053.. so once I installed all my apps and before I setup all my screens... I installed the theme.... worked perfectly. From there I switch over to Launcher 2 using home switch (Market App) and setup all my icons and widgets.

Once it was complete I opened ROM Manager and applied the permission fix script at the bottom.. just in case... and walla... silky smooth.

UPDATE:... I installed Bekits new 7slot LV kernel with expanded govenor and WOW...

Just when I didn't think it could get any smoother... ;) and there's so much more coming.

dang...thought I was through changing things around for a while....haven't gotten into messing with the different kernels yet...

improved speed?

So far it's running nicely.. no loops and heat is about the same. Haven't really pushed it yet so we'll see what happens over the weekend. I have found that it's good to wait a day or two after swapping kernels to let the new voltage seep take effect. But then....

WALLA... butter!!!.

Are the nandroid backups you have from clockwork recovery or sprecovery?

If you dont have any clockwork recovery backups then you are going to have to flash sprecovery via adb or install a zip from clockwork recovery. Hopefully the mud is clear. If you need more help just ask

first of all, thank you even for listening. i really dont like the "without a phone" feeling. lol. let me try and explain what i did,

i had bb v.08 installed on my phone. running great. jit, oc'd to 1250, the works. so i read a post about the new (to me atleast) cyanogenmod app in the market. to make a long story short, i took the plunge. even paid for it. it had me flash the new recovery and i did it without even thinking. after, i immediately backed up what i had using the app. i thought, cool! im ready to start flashing.

to make a long story not any longer, i was an idiot and thought i could enable jit by using the update.zip of it i used for the bb rom. so now when i reboot my phone i get bombarded with FC's and the only thing i can do is reboot into recovery, which wouldnt be a bad thing if i didnt keep getting MD5 mismatch when i try to restore. the only logical explanation i have for me getting that is because bb v.08 uses sprecovery and i made a backup of that using clockworks. but i dont know.

is there a way i can remove just an update.zip that i applied?

No you can't just take off that update. There was a problem with 1 recovery version that caused those md5 errors that has since been patch although not real helpful for you at this point. If I were you the easiest route would be to start with a fresh install of cm. To do so boot in recovery
Wipe data and cache
Then install zip
Find the clockworkmodfolder then you have to find the cm5.0.5.3 zip. I don't know the exact file name but I think its under the droid aftermarket folder. Install that. Then you got find the gapps zip and install that. I will check which folder gapps is in and let you know
