hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, the battery drainage was ok when I was using ICS 4.03 (overnight, 4~5% battery drain).. but after I upgraded to 4.04, the problem came, the battery drainage overnight is immense (from full charge to around 70%).. I installed CPUSPY and noticed that the CPU was no longer in "Deep Sleep" mode like it was in the ICS 4.03, but stayed at 200MHz, and my phone was kept awake for the whole period. I tried a hard reset on the phone, but the problem did not go away...

If that's the new feature of 4.0.4 then nobody can help u with that
Either live with it or flash back to 4.0.3

If you can't give a sensible answer then i would suggest you say nothing instead of possibly influencing someone to do a big task unnecessarily.

Another thing to try is to take your battery our for a few minutes as this had been found to cure deep sleep issues on many occasions.

i will try a factory reset again and reformat my sd card.. and also take out the battery for a few minutes... but can I ask, the feature where u can adjust the brightness when u hold and slide left/right at the place where the slide down screen is, is it gone in ICD 4.04? because i can't seem to change the brightness when using that shortcut method anymore...

i could not be more sensible. if the new update drains more battery after a factory reset, so be it. there's nothing u can do. either live with it or flash it back to the way it was. but again, u have misread my post since post #1 so maybe u should give more sensible answers before u send someone on a big task unnecessarily.

Sound advice indeed. If something doesn't work as expected, flash back a previous build. Did waynelim even say he had done a factory reset? I think not. A hard reset is not a factory reset.

time yourself taking your battery out and back in against you flashing back to version 4.0.3 and then see which you regard as the bigger task.

Waynelim, it has been known that phones not going into deep sleep can be fixed by taking the battery out, but if you want to rebuild your phone before even trying this first then that's entirely up to you. It may not work, but it would be the first thing I'd try.

a hard reset is done when the phone is not responsive, unable to start or change setetings. in his case, his phone is working fine. the first logical move is a factory reset, aka a soft reset. why would he go thru extra trouble doing hard reset by taking out the battery? it takes me 5 seconds to do a factory reset, rest is just waiting. not sure why u think removing the cover and battery offers less work.

as for flashing back to a previous build, it's also the first logical thing to do. if u work with computers, the first troubleshooting tip is to make things the way they were before they stopped working, aka the recovery. u might think trying to figure out a problem is easier than wiping out ur phone, but u r taking a big gamble. if the problem goes away after a factory reset or system recovery, it should be the first thing u do.

It may be a rogue app as I have 4.0.4 running fine and to be honest I think my battery is giving more than when it was on 4.0.3.
And on the reset topic, I usually leave that to the end after exhausting all other possibilities, if you don't find the problem before the reset, it might come back after the reset and you are back to square one, if that makes any sense.

guys, stop quarrelling, i did a factory reset again and also took out the battery like what hawker said, and that did the job, my phone is back to deep sleep again when the screen is off, so I do not need to flash my firmware back to 4.03... it was not the os's fault in the end, so I must say that I am lucky I did not follow what u said jaliy... i just wanna ask you guys who are on 4.04, is the shortcut to set the screen brightness straight from the home screen gone in 4.04? i could still use the shortcut on 4.03...

I figure everyone should do factory reset before posting a problem
Saves yourself and others some time

That being said, did u read up on the difference between a factory reset and a hard reset?
You don't want to be giving wrong advices to people do you

I totally agree, a factory reset cures many ailments, but it should be used as a last resort solution. Less drastic options should be considered first unless you enjoy setting your phone back up for half an hour or more every time. A factory reset is not the solution for every single problem however.

Please do tell where exactly above did i advise anyone to do a hard reset?
(not that it would have done any harm anyway, as what is more commonly known as a hard reset on here at least is non invasive and wipes nothing. The link you've highlighted appears to be most commonly referred to as a factory format by the way)

And i know how to perform a soft reset, a hard reset, a factory reset and a factory format, and i fully understand the differences between all 4 thanks. If I'm ever in any doubt in future, i know who to ask.

The number of problems that your phone seems to have that you report on here, i wish you all the very best of luck during the many happy hours "hard resetting" your phone in the future given your problem solving stratagem.

I shall say no more. :banghead:
:adore:

Actually i had no problems for a while since i upgraded to ics for the first time
I only came here when 4.0.3 rolled out and that's when the problems started
If u bothered to read any reviews at all u will find lots of ppl wishing they didn't update this firmware

I wish myself luck too on finding help from ppl who actually read and understand my problems

Glad to hear that your phone is now sorted waynelim. :)

It would appear that this feature has been removed from the stock, 4.0.4, firmware, as per these posts:-
