I have a 16 gig sdcard. I've flashed many roms and patches and fixes and so on so I'm used to fluctuations in my storage but I've noticed my SDcards physical space is missing. I have it partitioned for ext use in cm7 (Jerry's Tom and recovery last builds) The problem is even if I format my SDcard on my computer (win7) I only come up with 12 gigs not the entire 16.... do I need to download a tool for windows to recognize the missing space or ?. Lol is this a Linux type thingy :banghead:

Not "a Linux type thingy." 12 GiB may indeed be possible, depending on how much was allocated for the EXT partition. Note that:

2^34 = ~17.2 GB = 16.0 GiB

16.0 GB [SD card] = ~14.9 GiB

The MiniTool Partition Wizard is recommended over Windows for formatting SD cards.

Another note of caution is that a lot of cheap no-name mail-order/eBay SD cards are fraudulent--commonly with much less actual usable memory than sold-as and labelled.

I understand windows wont recognize the ext but I think what I would Like to know is how do I format the card to recover the full amount of space (the full 16 gigs).....do I have to use Linux? Or is there a better method for windows :) if I have to install Ubuntu I will but I would rather not lol

You could do it with a live usb image of a linux distro. Then all you have to do is enable usb booting in your computers bios and it will boot off the flash drive.
