To S3 owners.

I'm looking to upgrade my phone to the s3 but I haven't actually been able to test one. Do you like the size? Like how does it fit in the pockets and when on the go? And do you know if it's future proof. I got my ace a year ago and never received any updates while everyone else was.. Will it receive updates 2 years from now. One thing that really pisses me off is when it says certain apps aren't compatible with my device, while I be receiving this message with future apps in a few years? I if so I just might get the iphone 5

I'm a little guy and I can tell you It fits perfectly in my hand. Even with an Otterbox Defender. As long as you don't wear skinny jeans, it will fit in your pocket. As for upgrades, as long as you don't mind kexec, it will be upgradeable for years. My SIII will for sure last me years. But, I'm a tech junkie and I'm sure I will buy the next Nexus or Note if they're on Verizon.

Also, the iPhone 5 will be obsolete within a year. Even though they upgrade them, the previous generation iPhones usually get gimped. Also, flagship Android phones are lightyears ahead of previous ones while iPhones are always incremental changes.

Size : Fits great in my pocket & I contantly have to check & make sure it's still there due to it's lightness & thinness.

Futureproof : Honestly, nothing is futureproof. It will get Jelly Bean at some point, after that who knows.

Apps not compatible: Currently dealing w/ that w/ the S3. Most EA games for example are not.

iPhone : No comment

At the end of the day go w/ what's best for you. If it's the iPhone then so be it. The S3 for me is a great device, but then again it's not for everybody. Go check one out in person & decide for yourself.

I just upgraded to an SGS3 from an HTC Desire Z. The Desire Z has a landscape keyboard slider and a 3.7" screen. The SGS3 has a 4.8" screen.

My first impressions of the SGS3 is that it is too big for my hand. I find I need to use it two handed for some things that I could easily do with on hand on my DZ. After using it for a few weeks now, I am getting used to the size. I can do more things just one handed now. I still have trouble reaching the top left corner icon with my right thumb when holding it with my right hand only. Now that I have it for a few weeks, the size doesn't bother me any more.

I generally carry my phone in a belt holster. I found one that fits the SGS3. I do not find the SGS3 to feel any more difficult to carry around than any of my previous phones.

I personally don't worry about future proofing my phone. I figure that any phone would feel out of date in a few months anyway. I just make sure I'm happy with it after the first month. There will always be better and faster phones with more features. If you worry too much about updates, you may never be happy with any phone.

I'm a girl with tiny hands and I don't have any issues using this phone. I always carry around a purse so not sure how it would fit in pockets. I'm guessing if your jeans are tight, it might be a bit uncomfortable because they phone is pretty big. Futureproof.. well, the phone is packing some of the latest technology so pretty sure it'll still be great after a year.. but from what i've experienced, most every electronic products become outdated in a year or so..

I really like the look of the s3 and the specs seem pretty impressive for what's on the market. Anyone know how good the new nexus will be.. Maybe I'll wait for that

Define "future proof"...

We already know the S3 will get Jellybean (android 4.2) but who knows after that? It's also pretty certain the S2 will get it as well. Android, unlike IOS doesn't span across multiple hardware platforms (with caveats; see the following quote), however, due to it's "open" nature there are always options - I was running ICS on my 2 year old S1.

As for size, most people finds it fits fine in their hands and love the large screen. It's not like the Galaxy Note which is akin to holding a piece of toast to your ear.

As for app compatibility if anything it's too "un-future proof" as there are some games which won't run on it because it's too new. Apps themselves seem to be just fine.

Yea I used to think it was my imagination that later versions of IOS ran like crap on earlier hardware, however it seems it's real and many think it's Apple's way of "encouraging" hardware purchases.....

I wonder if they have a patent on that, too...

There is always going to be something else around the corner..... That's true with all Tech items like phones, TVs, computers..... I think this phone is about as good as it gets for jumping in and enjoying something now.

Exactly !!!

The Galaxy S line will always be Samsung's flagship. My plan is to keep this phone until the S4 comes out & then after that for you math majors the S5...bet you don't know which one after that.

its going to take me some time tweaking things, and finding out just whats what...

like the fact that it has a menu for widgets, or just the app icon.... that is awesome....much better then digging around trying to figure out what you want...


it is a little slick...and i think i will get a case for this one....seems a little to small, yet big....hahahahahah

I have a friend who decided to get the current Galaxy Nexus phone. I believe he put JB on it already and is very happy with it. He considers it to be the best phone for the price you pay. The price for it has gone down a bit.

I haven't heard anything about the next Nexus phone yet amongst the tech blogs that I follow.
