Root [CWM][ROOT][GB ONLY] Clockworkmod Recovery for the LG Spectrum 4G

Has anyone else noticed an issue mounting/formatting /sd-ext? It references /dev/block/mmcblklk1p2 (instead of mmcblk1p2?)

I also noticed 2 different img files in the zip (cwmrecovery.img and cwm-recovery.img), but only the first is referenced by the install scripts. Did I get a bad copy of the zip? :)

Thanks for your great work PG. Look forward to getting this fixed and BlackPlague (re)installed on my phone.

UPDATE: Or it could be that this device doesn't have an sd-ext? Just went back to Neph's ported touch recovery and don't even see sd-ext as an option there. Any thoughts on the "extra" img file?

The first post explains the two files.
NOTE: For those who prefer the non-touch CWM, I have included it in the zip, just rename the img's according. ;)

As for sd-ext, why bother with it when we have so much storage space on the phone? It really doesn't pay to store programs on a memory card any more imho.

Is there a reason that the the backups that I make are now 28MB instead of 1.2 gb?
It's CWM 6 now, instead of 5. Koush rewrote the entire archive process so that files that are the same now get marked and not re-archived. Makes back ups smaller, but makes it a lot more interesting to get rid of archives unless you go into CWM and do it.

You are correct it was a typo on my behalf, sorry about that. But tbh, no reason for a sd-ext on this device. ;)

And like Neph posted the other img is the non-touch version ;)

I will get that typo corrected and rebuild some time today n update the links. ;)

Thanks, Neph. I completely missed the note in the OP.

Completely agree about no need for sd-ext on this device... Was just try to make sure I did a "full wipe" before jumping back to BP after trying out the awesome "How to return to V6 with just CWM..." steps.

Thanks again, all, for saving this device from LG's horrible UI team + Big Red's bloatware. This is keeping me going until we have a real ICS ROM to build/kang CM9 from

That's bogus so basically he's profiting for doing nothing and letting PG do the hard work. Granted I don't use ROM manager but after this will never do so.

Honestly, here is my thought on this. For those that only ever use RomManager, this is the best day of their life. No more having to dig on the internet for one-click solutions and for those that want to pay for Touch, more power to them. For everyone else willing to put in a little effort, or a little searching, the internet is free for them.

Case in point, going to Koush's on-site repository gives you the links to both the touch and non-touch versions of our recovery.

ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries

I do hear what you are saying man, but at the same time I feel like if you can't flash a rom or install a recovery using a dl etc then you probably shouldnt be messing with your phone in general. I mean it just bugs me how you and PG got CWM going, and it gets gravy trained to the advantage of Koush. If PG is getting compensation for his work from the proceeds of ROM Manager then I have no issues with it.

I'm torn between two thoughts.

Play made this possible and should reap some of the rewards of it...

But koush created CWM and therefore made it all possible to begin with...

I can't say koush is immoral for charging for it since he owns the rights to CWM and without his work play couldnt have done what he did. But I also don't like the fact he is charging for it since play put it together and worked very hard to do so. It's also a little disturbing that even those who paid 5.99 for ROM manager pro still have to pay 1.99 for the touch version.

At the end of it all though, I don't have an opinion about who is right or wrong or if anyone is at all...it's just what it is. All I know is I got the touch version for free :p Thank You Play!

More then half the people I've walked thru issues probably should have never rooted. Hell, I've told at least two people to stop trying to root and walk away. It's part of the reason that manufactures make it so hard to root a phone now.

On the other note, Koush is providing a service. A one click solution that most people are familiar with. Also, a one stop center for downloads. Being as no one else has spent the time to build an alternative, they either see it as not being finacially worth it, or just don't care enough to do so. Case in point, wifi teathering options use to cost money if you wanted SSH support. Now it comes standard and for free. If someone wants to build another one stop shop to compete with CW RomManager, more power to them. It also means dealing with all the headaches it entails, including the ever popular "it didn't work, give me a refund".

Lastly, if PG is anything like me, it's less about the money, and more about the "hey, I did it" factor. It's the reason I never put up a donate link. I follow in the steps of those that came before me and used their info to put out something. PG did the same by using Koush's touch recovery code and then asking Koush to host the final product. On that note thou, if you really want to support PG, just avoid CW RomManagers download cost and donate to PG directly for the work he has done.

That is the one thing I never did understand. Why are people who bought pro, not included in a free download of the touch version. Guess we'll never know, as I doubt Koush will change his policy in the near future, and those that don't want to pay will stick with the non-touch version.

Yea, I suppose you are correct about Koush providing a service with ROM Manager etc. I didnt really consider that aspect of it.

I wasnt trying to imply you or PG or really most dev's are in it for the money because from my experience you guys get more satisfaction in being able to say "look what I made/was able to do" which is AWESOME! :) I did donate to PG's fund in order for him to purchase a spectrum and really every other dev in the community and will contribute more to him/every other dev when I can.

lol, easy people easy. RM and CWM Touch are both worth the $2 they each cost IMO. Yes I built CWM for the Spectrum (and several other devices) but would have been able to w/o all the time and effort koush put into coding it, and improvements.

And as Neph said, I do this more for the sake of to do it, see if I can do it, etc. Money is nice, but the feeling of accomplishment is more rewarding.

And I will be updating the AIO with both official .img's. ;)

Capitalism at its finest. Koush owns cwm, so of course he'll be the one to most benefit/profit from it. It's unfortunate devs create cwm for devices and then he reaps the rewards, but there's 2 things I always remember:
1- he can't dev every device out there... He has a day job, after all.
2- devs don't generally care about the money or the fame... They dev because they want to hack and explore a device. I think the average Joe needs to consider that when looking at this issue.
