In stock android I don't believe there is a way. The closest you can get is to silence the phone which should allow music to play uninterrupted by notification sounds.
I have no idea. It seems that Google Play Music seems to lower the volume and raise it back up when you get a notification. At least in Jelly Bean. But BeyondPod doesn't (it simply pauses). So it seems somewhat app dependent.
As annoying as they can be I can't imagine not wanting to know when I have a message or call...except when sleeping.if you really want to be in "do not interrupt mode" I think you are going to have to do it manually. I don't see there being a lot of demand from people to block notifications. People are too addicted or too well trained to respond to every ring ding and beep.

Couldn't you just put the phone in vibrate mode? You would still know if you got a notification if the phone is touching your body (harr harr) and it wouldn't interrupt your music.
Probably, but I think that it still partially mutes your music for several seconds.... which at least is better than Froyo/Gingerbread completely stopping your music for the duration of the alert.
If you want to still hear calls but don't want to hear notifications there are applications such as "Volume Control+" that allow you to unlink ringer and notification volume.
Just tried that app. Doesn't work. After deeper research I've found that there is no way to unlink the volume and notification unless you install a custom rom that's coded in that option. AOKP Jelly Bean nightlies doesn't even have it.. yet.

Oh you're right, sorry about that. I just remembered seeing the option there and never thought to look. Makes me wonder why put in an option that does nothing.

I use "Headset Manager Lite" to set my phone to vibrate when a headphone jack is plugged in or a bluetooth connection is made, and when it disconnects it sets it back to normal. Works good with Poweramp.
