ok I think I'm starting to see a lot of familiar names from Precentral.net over here :D

I'm sensing more and more of you guys either coming here since the EVO was introduced (which I admit I am) and/or you guys have been here for a while. My story: I love my Pre but frustrated with its little quirks and how VZW got the features I wanted in the Sprint Pre. I've never used an Android phone but after following the supersonic...errr....I mean EVO since day 1 - I'm definitely picking one up and still using my Pre for my other phone line. So is anyone else from Precentral.net?

LOL awesome! I knew there were some of you in here! I bought some Palm stock (not a lot) hoping that someone buys them :)

Seeing more and more EVO videos are starting to make my Pre cry. So I'm waiting for more "too many cards" errors and slowdowns, resets, etc just so I can yell at it and say "yeah you bastard that's exactly why you're getting replaced"

I'm a 13yr palm user, bought and returned the pre the week it came out. Owned a Hero and a Moment. Traded the Hero for the Pixi and no go back and forth between the moment and the pixi. Waiting for 2.1 to hit to see how much of an upgrade it is. Have a spare line I can give the Evo a try. I don't lurk. I openly post and mention my preferences. I have zero loyalty to Palm since webOS doesn't hold a candle to PalmOS when it comes to the PIM along with the complete abandonment of PD along with memos, tasks, categories and such. Migration to the cloud breeds disloyalty and allows you to easily go to whatever phone best suits your needs. Most of us (as in forum members) can adapt to whatever they throw at us.

crogs571 @ precentral

The only problem with this place is you have just as many blind android fanboys as you do Pre fanboys over at Precentral.

+1...except for using the Pre on another line. I'm going to try selling it, but I don't think I'll be able to come June or whatever. Might sell it to my sister-in-law if she's done with her POS Instinct 1 by then.

I've been on Treocentral, PPCGeeks, Precentral, and tons of other Palm, WM, and Android forums. I went Treo 650->HTC Mogul->HTC Touch Pro->Palm Pre and will more than likely be getting an Evo this summer. I like to keep up on my current platform as well as the others available. Mobile tech has always interested me and this is a very interesting time to be involved. The boom being seen in the sector now is really unprecedented. You didn't see PC specs doubling over the course of a year but that is just what is happening with mobile.

Likewise, mobile hardware, software, and service are some of the few things people are still spending tons of money on despite cutting back on stuff like music and movies. It means the whole field is drawing a lot of investment and development.

yea im guilty of this too....but it wouldnt have made sense to keep my name from over at Precentral....titansluvpre

Love my PRE, infact the replacement one I just got is sooo much better than my launch day one from last year.

But I always have been an HTC fan, just hated Winmo...and now the EVO makes me want to come back

I don't see the battery life issue. Mine tends to last as long as any of my 3Gs-toting brethren. Still, I am frustrated with the overall build quality. I'm on my second one and there is a crack in the exact same place as my last one. This time I'm just gonna deal with it since it's going on eBay whenever the EVO comes out. I doubt the $100 I would spend on insurance would get me $100 more on eBay so why bother. It still works fine, I'm just tired of it. Girlfriend's Pre has a stuck power button so you either have to push as hard as humanly possible or rely on sliding it open to turn it on. Hers also has cracks but that is because she doesn't take care of her phones and drops it a lot. I'm actually impressed at how well it has stood up to her abuse.

I just want a nice big screen, Wimax, and I want to try out Android. I am a sucker for new phones and I have already owned PalmOS, WM, and WebOS. Android is next and maybe someday I will try WM7 once it has been out a while.

Same here.

My first one the ball button had the paint chip off it. This one hasn't. Small example, but it shows they changed it up. It's not white either, it's like a chrome paint on it or something.

My ball is chrome too....the build quality is far better, it is completely different from my launch PRE.

Although, it was surprising, that they gave me a brand new one, with little less than 10 minutes of arguing. Not sure if that is from Sprint Customer Service trying to be better....or there really is an over amount of PRE's with not much demand??

haha same here.

I had the stuck power button on my first one (only issue I have ever hard with my Pre's). I walked in and 2 minutes later she was setting up my new phone. I've been very lucky and haven't had any problems besides that one. No cracks, no bad oreo, no locking up/freezing.

My store must be staffed by the same folks that staffed the spaceships in Spaceballs. When I went in they basically blew me off and told me that screen cracks weren't covered despite the fact that they were due to design flaws and thousands of others had the same issue. Ended up paying $100 to insurance.

anyway I just overclocked my Pre from 600mhz to 800mhz today so it's running a lot nicer and I don't really care about it anymore as long as it lasts until summer :)

How's battery life? I feel the same way...it's really hard to care about it now that the EVO has been announced. Especially with how Palm has their backs to the wall and their only answer is trying to get their 2 phones to more carriers. Rubenstein even mentioned that they had a whole line of products coming up...well? Where the hell are they? You have 2. TWO products that should have been built by HTC anyways. Probably wouldve had better build quality

so, the overclock to 800 is really that noticeable?

It's just a lot smoother and faster. I think that since they made the mistake of not properly GPU accelerating the UI drawing functions and made the CPU do all the work, speeding up the CPU makes a decent difference in how responsive it is. Before it was decent but every now and then would lag. Now the lag is gone. Battery monitor doesn't seem to really show a difference. People are reporting maybe 5% less battery life and honestly I can handle that since mine lasts until the evening anyway and I tend to recharge it if I am going back out at night or going to be using it a lot.

I've been a huge fan of how easy this thing is to hack and patch and tweak. If it weren't just as easy on Android I would have some reservations about moving to Evo. Thankfully it seems to be just as tweakable so I won't have to give up my tinkering in exchange for the nice hardware the way I would with iPhone or (likely) Windows Phone 7.

Precentral user here. I'm planning on being much more active on these boards than over there though. In regards to the OC'ing making a difference, it definately does. I just put mine back to stock because it kept freezing last week and the screen freezes a lot (this was before the OC) So I am going to go and see if I can get it replaced under warranty.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, I am planning on getting the EVO 4g even if I have to camp for it.
