Root overclocking

For starters, the processor in the Droid is spec'd for 1 GHz and is factory UNDER clocked to 550 MHz. It is designed to run up to 1 GHz fine. The low voltage kernels that clock it over 550 are great and can even reduce the average temp of the CPU if you use profiles and such. Of course, there's no HUGE gain in overclocking so I wouldnt worry about it if you dont do it.

Im trying to convince my dad it wont ruin the phone so there is no way i can run anythomg other tjan droid mod do what is a kernel

Don't mod Dad's stuff.

Not his phone.

Certainly not his car.

I heard of a kid once getting a softloader and flashing an updated ECU mod on his mom's car. Considering it cost about $750 and voided the warranty, not good.

Bottom line, if he is fine, leave it alone.

Where are the threads about people who damaged their phones by overclocking? I'm not saying it hasn't happened...I just haven't heard about it. I've been running various ROMs and kernels for around 3 months now and haven't had any cause for concern.

Admittedly, if I damaged my phone from overclocking, I'd probably be too embarassed to say much. Maybe I'd say something as a warning to others, but you do have a point.
