Replace the mms apk and the framework apk I believe, I did it on one rom and managed to get it working,

Some of the newer Evo roms require the newest Sprint Hboot. Some of them require the older Hboot. Some work on any.

As mentioned MMS can be a problem regardless.

Hboot changes are in two places, the Hboot downgrade thread and the "fix everything" thread at the top.

As far as getting mms working on a evo 3d rom, as long as it is not aosp, just swap the apns.xml that is in the framework-res.apk and you will be good. I would also recommend modifying the build.prop to match that of a virgin mobile rom. You will also want to replace the vvm apk in system/app with the virgin one. By doing that I have successfully ported every sense rom on both ics and gb. I am personally running a gb rom now.

been playing around with this so just use the stock build.prop and files listed or could i use them from another rom with permission from the creator.

I'd actually beg to differ. I recently tried out Slim ROM and I got boot loops on it. Yes I'm on HBOOT 1.0.4. But no I sadly do not know how to replace the framework and all that. So all work minus Slim ROM. (ICS)

I'm running that rom right now actually! It works fine, I flashed an anthrax kernel over it though to increase performance.
