iphone 5 vs Galaxy S3?

Nope. I was contemplating waiting for the iPhone 5 or to just get the Samsung Galaxy SIII but I ended up getting the S3. iPhones are going out, only true Apple hypes are sticking with the phones because it's an Apple product. Since Steve Job's death and leave from the company, Apple doesn't seem to be putting out quality stuff as once before.

The new iPhone is said to have lots of changes such as the charging port and the newer design because of a bigger screen. The new iPhone is assumed to have 4G LTE but who knows. Apple is stubborn and only adds things only if enough people complain and whine for the extras.

I went with Android (Galaxy S3) because:
-4G LTE now
-Bigger screen size
-External memory as an option
-Google is a much more relaxed company than Apple
-Android has a larger community than iOS devices do
-Customization for Android phones
-Rooting allows more and Google is more understanding of consumers rooting than Apple is of people jailbreaking
-Warranty and replacement if phone is lost/stolen

I would like an iPhone for a few reasons which don't seem to be much compared to the advantages of Android
-better compatibility with apps and accessories due to less models of iOS devices
-Hype and steady value over time
-Apple taking control of repairs instead of Asurion/Sprint/Samsung/etc.
-More apps and more exclusive apps as well as the Apple App Store, typically, getting apps first

Other than those...Android seems to be the best. And this Samsung Galaxy SIII has been one of my favorite phones to hold.

For meh, I was ready to ditch my BlackBerry 9900 and wanted a new phone...it was either the iPhone 4S or the S3 and I Was thinking hmm...

shall I buy an iPhone which is still more expensive than the S3 here in Dubai and is 1 year old, slower, has less features? or buy an S3 which is cheaper, has an SD Card Slot, removable battery, more free apps, and more customization options than the iToy? the choice was obvious....Android S3 FTW

iPhone and iPad are appealing to a lot of people because it just works and kind of like a coloring book where the images are already outlined.

Factor in Flash is no longer a long term option and less to differentiate. This is more an issue for tablets, but still one more thing to even the playing field. If Apple ever added a micro slot, there would be even more evenness.

Apples stubborn ways sometimes help their competition. Shame Google does not get this with their Nexus brand.

Flash could be used before Flash Player was available on Android - I know not everyone remembers, as not everyone has been using it this long, and it will be available when Flash Player is not available in the future.

A coloring book is a great example, I agree.

oh and let me remind you, the iPhone 5 will cost an arm and a leg compared to the S3 and people will line up in ques like dummies with their cash ready to buy it as if it were the last / best smartphone in the world when all it would be is an over priced iToy that forces you to use iTunes to copy an MP3 song to the phone which by itself needs some online training courses thanks to Apple's crappy software!

just my 2 cents

On the other side of that token, Apple doesn't downgrade it's products by constantly releasing new ones within a year. If you count cost to buy vs value when sold after a year (or so) I bet the difference isn't all that great. Iphones hold value pretty well.

I can't stand Apple, just saying that Google and it's henchmen are taking advantage too. And we (including me, no ESPECIALLY me) keep going right out and buying them over and over again, with their incremental improvements.

For a good portion of the population that is devoted to iPhones....the new iPhone will be AWESOME because it will just be a bigger, badder version of what they're used to. Many of these people are completely myopic to anything non-iOS so all those other black bar phones in the phone store mean absolutely nothing to them. Droid this, Droid that, who cares?

They will look at their current iPhone which they love, and then they'll see that they can get a new one with a BIGGER SCREEN (Hooray!) and LTE speeds (double Hooray!) and maybe the back is now a brushed titanium coating that was used on the Mars lander so that's certainly stylish too......

My point is that from a REALITY standpoint I'm not sure what the iPhone will bring that would totall trump GS3, but for lots of bodies it won't matter.....it's all about what is their best choice in the pond they've committed to swim in.

Mmm

iPhone - June 29, 2007
iPhone 3G - July 11, 2008
iPhone 3GS - June 19, 2009
iPhone 4 - June 24, 2010
iPhone 4S - October 14, 2011
iPhone 5 - September 2012

Except for the 4 to 4S there was an upgrade every year and sometimes a little less.

Although totally agree that they hold value much better.

A lot of people like their hands held and knowing the product and apps simply work. Fragementation creates problems for Android, so in spite of many hardware options, this actually is a negative for Android apps and perception (devs go nuts trying to support all the hardware).

Android will probably never take the marketshare that fits this demographic- unless Android only sells Nexus. IMO, the lack of sd slot and Flash makes Android, THAT much closer to Apple. Hence why I am not a fan at all of Nexus products. At least Apple offers larger storage versions of their products.

I have the iPad 3 iPod 4 and must admit that the same apps that are on Apple and Android are almost always better on the iPad and iPod than my Android devices.

That said, my TF300 overall is a lot better with Jellybean. Even the now non-supported Flash performs better. Ironic.

As others have said, the Iproducts are great for the right person. I recommended a droid incredible to a buddy of mine after I got one. I tinkered away, loved every modification, made it my house-trained puppy. He got it, has never modified a thing, can't make it do even 1/50th of what it's capable of and hates Android because of it. He needs to be spoon fed (THIS is how you hold your phone...), and he'll end up with an Iphone5 and he'll rave about how great it is. I'll snicker away and use my GS3 to tether on my rooted JB-running phone with more memory, a faster processor etc...

Right, the difference is coming out with a phone with incremental updates and coming out with a phone that makes the previous phone worth next to nothing. From an Iphone 3 to a 3s isn't a big jump (same with the 4 and 4S) in name or function. Just incremental additions to keep up with the times.

Android software and hardware make the previous phones obsolete nearly within a year, and then they play us with the updates witholding them until after the new phone is released.

That's a big reason why the Iphone's hold value so well. Android software almost reinvents itself each time whereas IOS is pretty consistently the same thing.

Very true up to a point. However if we stick with Samsung and their flagship phones - which is the nearest you can get when comparing the iPhone - as after all the iPhone IS Apples flagship!

Samsung Galaxy S2 - May 2011 - Android v2.3 - upgrading to 4.0 and soon to get 4.1.
Samsung Galaxy S3 - May 2012 - v4.0 - upgrading to 4.1 next week (for some)

So Samsungs last main model released well over a year ago is capable of running the latest and greatest Jelly Bean goodness!

Withholding the release is a pain but surely that is a carrier issue and not Google.

Of course Apples consistency is its strength and weakness. Holds its value but makes it a bit boring!

guess thats the difference, i always want the newest thing lol

I'm sure shortly after the new iPhone is release, there will be a newer phone coming out.

As for whether or not the next iPhone will be better than the SGS3, I'll wait until it is released, so we know what it is really like before I decide. Right now, there are just so many rumours out that may or may not be true. It's hard to compare a real product with vapourware.

The iPhone has a silky smooth, no nonsense OS that is easy to use and works great all the time. Android has a much more customizable OS that, in my humble opinion, is not fully "mature".

I have been using a 4s since it came out and other than the tiny screen, I loved it. Everything is in the right place. The camera is better than the S3. Period.

I get so sick of the insults and useless comments about how Apple sucks or Android sucks... blah blah blah.... The fact is Android and Apple are BOTH awesome you just have to pick out the one you like best. I sold my 4s and bought an S3 simply for the experience. I figured in the month or 2 before the iPhone 5 comes out, I could play around with the latest Android and make my mind up when the 5 comes out.

Eh, I (and many others) had the Droid X for almost two years and was in no rush to upgrade because the new stuff wasn't really that much better, IMHO. It certainly wasn't and still isn't "obsolete". I jumped when I did mainly to keep my unlimited data. However, the S3 is probably the first phone that I feel is significantly better than the DX in just about every single way (although, reception isn't as good...was hoping to hold out for the RAZR HD).

What sucks about androids is they lose there value fast too because there is always "the next best thing" 6 months later...
They are Phones/PDAs/TinkerToys, not investment vehicles.

At least with Android devices, you have a wide variety to choose from with a nice flow of faster/better/cheaper entering the market. With Apple, you get to stand in line for what they offer you when they offer it and you're going to pay a premium for it and like it, comrade!

I don't see not getting a solid 2-year longevity with this device as it does have superb hardware and the software is always improving.

Besides, I hope Google teaches Apple proper manners; a nice time-out is in order.

The GS3 had it's fair share of outlandish rumors, too. 3D screen, waterproof, etc.
