No Nexus One Verizon at all?!

I really don't think this means that a CDMA version of the Nexus One will not be released that can work on Verizon's network. Read the quote from the Verizon person as literally as possible -- Verizon isn't selling the Nexus One, Google is. I think that's all that Verizon rep meant. That being said, he almost seemed to be indicated that it was Google's fault that the phone isn't out yet. But that doesn't make sense to me. Why would google hold up the release? If anyone would hold it up I would think it would be Verizon. I think at this point the delay is due to product positioning issues. If you think about it there are really three phones that Verizon needs to carefully position against each other: 1. Nexus One 2. Droid 3. HTC Incredible. I think Verizon is waiting on two things: 1. the end of the Droid buy 1 get 1 free promotion and 2. the release of the HTC Incredible. I am sure they would prefer to sell people the HTC Incredible since it will be SOLD by Verizon. If they released the Nexus One prior to the Incredible they might lose sales of the Incredible to the Nexus One. This is my theory. So, my prediction is that we'll see the Nexus One available in 1-2 weeks when the droid sale ends (they still want to milk that for what it's worth) and when the incredible is rumored to be available.

If you're referring to this paragraph:

"eWEEK asked when the carrier would have an "update" on the Nexus One situation. Remember, the March 23 date was an unconfirmed rumor. A Verizon spokesperson replied: "Update? We've never said we were selling the Nexus One. Nothing has changed."

I'd say, don't worry about that. Verizon will not be selling the N1 in stores, it will only be sold online by Google.

I certainly understand your frustration, because I've been waiting months for this phone too. Since it's not coming out until "Spring" we may have quite a while to wait yet. Gah.

Exactly, Spring goes well into June, so we could have a nice wait ahead of us. On the other hand, you don't say Spring when you mean Summer, so I'd say by mid-spring at the latest. This could even mean into May. Keep in mind that a CDMA version is, once again, 'rumored' to be available in late April, so that might mean that the CDMA version isn't quite ready yet and we can expect the Verizon launch to match this timeframe.

Sprint customer service robot (erm, chat person) says Nexus One in late April | Android Central

Remember, there was an HTC CDMA smartphone approved by the FCC sometime in February, so this was another piece of info that fueled the fire around a Verizon Nexus One launch. However, this could have been the HTC Incredible for all we know. It also could have been the Sprint version. We really don't know. All of this is speculation and recycled rumors and there have been no announcements from Verizon nor Google other than the Spring 2010 launch that was promised when the Nexus One originally launched in January on T-Mobile. This has been reflected on the official website as well.

As far as the EVO goes, that honker is bigger than the HD2. I don't think my belt is strong enough for that. And Sprint is still shaky if you ask me. 4G isn't even available in the NYC area yet. I'm going to stick with the Nexus One on Verizon. One day...

Thanks guys! Good insight. Also, I am on a family plan on Verizon and my upgrade date has come already, so I can upgrade whenever it does get released. So I guess my main issue now is if the Nexus One will work with the Family Shareplan. I am hoping and praying that it does, as opposed to the T-Mobile plan with the phone, but I guess if it isn't then I would have to go for the Incredible, which is still alright but not my favorite. Do we know if the phone will work with the Family plan?

i actually asked a verizon rep about this it working on a family plan and when it would come out. He said end of march, and that it would work on a family plan. I haven't heard anyone else say anything else, but an employee at my local store did tell me that. i do hope it is true, as that is the only way I'd be abke to get one.

This is a well-reasoned and persuasive post. I've been agonizing over whether to get the N1 when VZW releases it OR drop VZW when I go out of contract in June and get an EVO with Sprint. Based on your comments, I've decided I'll get the N1 when it becomes available, but not the subsidized version. Then, if I'm not happy with it or decide I want to try the EVO when it comes out, I can do so with no financial consequences. If I'm happy with the EVO and Sprint's coverage in my area, I'll eBay the N1 and keep on truckin'. If I'm NOT happy with the EVO for whatever reason, I'll return it and reactivate the N1. This way the wait is minimized (I hate waiting!), and I get first-hand experience with both phones.

Am I missing anything or does this sound like a good plan? Any thoughts welcome.

You'd be a sucker to pay $529 for this on Verizon. You gain nothing because the plans you'd pay for on Verizon build in subsidized pricing already (unlike TMobile plans when you bring your own phone) and you won't be able to use it on any other carrier except Verizon. This is the only thing giving me hope that the sales model won't be as limited as TMobile's is.

That's exactly what I am hoping for.

So does everyone think I should wait around for the Nexus One to see if it will work for me, even if the Incredible comes out before it?

Good point. Glad I asked, :) I've never looked into T-mobile's pricing and didn't realize it was cheaper for an unsubsidized phone. The only upside to paying full price for the VZW N1 then, would seem to be the ability to sell it in a couple of months if I choose to go with the EVO on Sprint. No contract means I can walk away from Verizon with no strings attached.

I'm also on the fence about which phone i'm going to get, it really boils down to cost-of-ownership for me. If I jump on the Inc. and find out later that an unlocked N1 will save me $ over 2 years i'll be angry at myself for not waiting.

After holding out for this long, it would be dumb for me to make an impulse-buy. I am definitely waiting for both phones to release before making my decision.

Good point, I' will probably do the same. Just hoping there's not too long of a wait!

Verizon Nexus One Shows Up On Google Site

We’ve been covering the Verizon Nexus One story extensively simply because the drama surrounding it is so interesting, and a lot of you have a strong interest in following up on the story. We have more news on the never-ending Verizon Nexus One and this time, the Verizon Nexus One showed up on Google’s phone site, google.com/phone, briefly.

A consumer to the site noticed the addition, but it’s now gone for some reason. The price listed was $199.99 with a 2-year contract. We know Verizon Nexus One is making a debut some time in the future, but what we don’t know is the back and forth in figuring out the logistics.
