Now that I've gotten my Evo Design... should i update to ICS??

Just as the topic says, should I upgrade to ICS or continue to use the Gingerbread version of Android?

Everything seems to run okay on gingerbread... I've read about all kind of issues with the Ice Cream Sandwich update, and if it's not working so well on this device model, then I wouldn't want to find out after updating.

Is there anyone who has a good minimum issues since updating?

My Design came with ICS, I use Boost. The most annoying issues I have had mainly have to do with using the Chrome browser on my device. So of course, stay away from Chrome if you update. The rest of my issues mainly have to do with custom ROMs (I get bored with the same looks and features after a while). If you do upgrade, another issue that pops up is a notification saying that the process com.google.android had suddenly stopped, or something of the sort. That issue seems to stem from the Google Maps application, and can be handled. It mainly pops up after rebooting your device. A decent amount of people complain about lag, but I haven't seen it yet.

Let us know more about how you plan to use your device, it will help us tailor our answer to your needs. Do you plan on rooting your device, installing ROMs, installing kernels, do you use it for work, do you game a lot, do you talk more than anything, etc...

It looks like you've been on these forums for a while now, so I'm sure you know the drill.

Also, a quick question for you. Upgrading to premium, other than the fact that it helps support the forums, is it worth paying for? I'm mainly interested in the VIP forums, I know nothing about them. Are there any extra cool features? I only know what it shows on the standard to premium chart.

I have no problems with my Boost Evo that came with stock ICS, that is, after I used a different launcher. There is a bit of lag due to sense in my guess, but ever since I changed launchers it's been running great
(I'm not running any custom ROMs, still on stock)
But as the guy above me said, I did have ALOT of issues with chrome and it actually completely ruined my first Evo and I had to purchase a new one. That's why I'm sticking with Firefox until they fix the issues, so I also suggest you stay away from chrome.

I don't understand why the update is causing people a lot of problems. Both Evos that I got from Boost ran well, but for some reason the upgrade on the Sprint version is causing a lot of lag..

If you do not like stock ics, and think it is laggy, then I suggest you try 2fast version.. It is mostly stock, but on steroids and with a lot of other tweaks... I like his version over stock GB period.. I will never go back to stock again... if you have any problems with your phone, and need to return it, the average sprint joe tec will not know the difference..

I don't think I've ever done so many reset on any of my devices. I don't know who's to be blamed, Sprint or HTC.

I'm quite sure its not because this phone runs on a single core processor. I've used many single core processor devices before, and have yet to see such obvious lag. In my opinion, this update wasn't quite ready for certain devices. I think they were trying to have a huge advantage over their competitors. And that's what lead to them not spending quality time perfecting the outcome of this Android version.

It took them a long time to get this update out...they should have at least got it running a lot better on most devices. Instead of competing, focus that energy to perfect on things at hand. (HTC)

I've been playing around with this update on the phone and this is what I found out... With ICS you can't play music and surf the web without the device getting really ....-- especially when using the stock input keyboard.

I did yet another reset, this time I didn't update or reinstalled any of my apps. Phone seems to function the way I believe this update was intended to. Hopefully after much complaining to the manufacturers and carriers, they'll work on an update to get things straightened out. Don't hold your breath though.

P.s. Typing this post while playing Pandora on this phone is almost impossible.
One more thing, how do I get the keyboard (does this with any installed keyboard) to stop replacing words instead of deleting them when pressing the back key? Did ICS really change things for better or worse. Smh!

There are a few other, but I do not find this one to be laggy at all... Jaydogg who is no longer making roms for this phone, has one in the all root section.. I have tried it and like that as well. I currently having it on my wifes phone.. The only probem with that rom, is you can't use the sense launcher, it goes into reboots.. He said he fixed it, but in fact he hasn't

You have to go into settings>language and keyboard, and uncheck spelling correction.. I also hate that function as well..

Not sure as I do not use ytube much.. Also iphone, their to much of control freaks over at apple, so I will never buy one.. Think about it, for you to change a battery, you have to bring in your phone to a apple store, for them to change it NO THANKS..

After the update to Android 4.0.3 (HTC Sense 3.6), my phone has been RIDICULOUSLY SLOW!! I feel like I spend more time staring at a blank load screen than I do using the phone. Sometimes I just try to check a text message and it says "No messages" and flashes a blank screen for 5 seconds before it loads.

The other annoying thing is they removed the lock screen feature where you can drag the ring to a different app to load mail or messages or whatever. And now at the top of the lock screen it says "SPRINT" instead it used to say the time and date. Very weird choice of a feature change. I used to just drag the lock screen ring to the messages icon and I'd be reading my latest text in seconds.

Note I'm using GO LAUNCHER, and I think that might be adding to the lag. Anyone else experiencing this?

Is there a way to DOWNGRADE? This has caused way too many problems to warrant such few new features. Honestly, what's better about this version?

Yes, I do believe you can. However, the method I'm thinking of involves unlocking your bootloader, and that may be something you are not interested in. At the moment I'm busy with a guide for the Boost phone, but I can help direct you towards a method to return your phone to stock software when I'm finished.

I think that issue has to do with the apple law suit not sure but pretty sure.
There is a way around that if your rooted.

If you haven't yet, do a reset of the device. This might fix some of the issues that you are experiencing - hopefully.

I believe the Ice Cream Sandwich version wasn't ready for distribution for a single core processor device. Gingerbread was running flawless on this device until this update.

At least our device has an ARMv7 chipset. Can you imagine them trying to push that update if we had the ARMv6? #3!! NO

Unfortunately, the only way I've heard of reverting to a previous version of Android is by modifying the device (rooting). Personally, on my Evo Design i wasn't prepared to do such thing, so i had it exchanged for an Evo 3D.

I believe the problem with ICS not running perfectly on this device, is the fact that the Design is a single core phone. And Ice Cream Sandwich seems to function much better on dual core devices. My Evo 3D runs really good with this version of Android.

If you go ICS, I would root so you can at least de-bloat it.

I have Sprint ICS on mine, and it is slow. Working on a root now.
