Nexus One Screen Res - not what it appears...

Yeah, the display looks good, but anyone can see the small pixelation that isnt' there on the Moto Droid... now we know why...

Frankly, I feel pretty dissappointed about this, if not cheated in a way... It's bad enough to have p!$$ poor readility in the outdoor sunlight with the Amoled display... now this...

honestly pixel peeping isn't my bag. coming from an iphone 3g, the screen looks great much improved over the iphone and i don't have any issues with reading it outside, just click up the brightness if i need to see it.

The specs that i care about are usability and how it performs doing the tasks i want it to. It excels at both.

forums for some reason make you look at things that really have no impact on what you do with a phone, but if you're that insecure about some little thing here and there then you may want to look elsewhere...

one of the things that i've noticed the biggest improvement is call quality. The iphone sucked in a big way.

I think they are only talking about the Gallery...which somehow undersamples or uses a lower resolution. Not worried about it, at all

mi_canuck is just bringing up the fact that Google could have better represented the screen specs. I feel the same way. If I knew the effective resolution was two-thirds of the reported specs I may not have purchased the phone. Now that I see the screen I'm not too concerned. But be honest, if this was an Apple product, (Android) people would be all over it.

And regarding the hostility, why even bother posting that a topic is stupid? Are you really that immature or insecure that you have to voice such hollow opinions? That's just as stupid as the thing you perceive to be stupid. Flame me is you want, but I'm not going to get into a tit-for-tat pissing match.

This all smells like bunk to me. Having used a Droid and a N1 side by side, I can say the display is just as crisp, but more vibrant on the N1. You can say the screen has a different effective resolution if you count it right, but it feels like a big 'if' to me. Text has never seemed blurry to me.

Honestly, FFS, it is a mobile phone, not a god damn Plasma tv screen.

There are always pros and cons between different types of displays, but for me, I will take the screen colouration & power savings advantages of AMOLED.

This slight fuzziness.......never really noticed....and to be quite honest, I could care less. The phone/screen in my day to day use, looks fine to me.

It's amazing how fast the White Knights come out of the woodwork just to nail you for having an opinion, huh? I'm fairly disappointed with the Nexus One in some aspects as well, but I think this is just what happens when one implements new technology on a new phone. AMOLED will have to mature a little more before it can compete with today's offerings. Maybe the Galaxy S's Super AMOLED will be up to par.

Personally I'm still waiting for the HTC Incredible. Almost anything will be better than my Alias (yes, that's the FIRST Alias).

Despite my screen having jaw dropping colors with "black" blacks, obviously there is something wrong with it because everyone else says so. Nevermind that it is the hottest display being sold right now. Nevermind that everyone I show the phone too is mesmerized by the vibrant colors. Nevermind that I can blind someone if I put it on the brightest setting. Nevermind that the AMOLED design saves battery life. There are a hundred threads started by people who obviously know more than my eyes do. Even though I can't find anything wrong with my display, I hate it because everyone told me it is inferior in every way. I also now despise my vision for not being able to show me anything but a beautiful display. Thanks everyone for ruining my Nexus One for me.

What bugs me about this ongoing N1 screen debate is that EVERYONE loved it when they first saw it. I don't think there was a negative review of the screen (except for Engadget who complained that it was blowing red/orange out too much). But now that people have had time to geek out and sit with their faces two inches away from the screen looking for faults, they want to freak out.

Remember that thing a while back where people were claiming that the N1 only had a 16-bit color screen? Yeah, that wasn't true. People showed categorically that the weird effect was due to a scaling bug in the browser. This stuff keeps happening.

People are so ready to jump on this phone's screen. I'm not sure why. It's not like it's the end all be all of phones. It is not a perfect phone, but I'm just really suspect of these blogs that raved about the screen in their reviews and then take any company's word on why it sucks.

I never heard about it. I have this picture as my wallpaper and it's kind of choppy colors but I never really cared.

Imo, this only goes on with folks that are very susceptible to the power of suggestion. There will always be folks that READ something and then think they see the supposed issue. IMO, it is not exclusive to the N1. It's just par for the course on the internets...

Well you have to remember that when it first came out no one knew that it was prone to spontaneous cracks and dust getting under the screen.

And later many of us realize that the screen while great at first glance starts to lose its luster when you look really closely (it's still a great screen, nonetheless). Even later everyone started to realize that the screen hasn't been consistent between the Nexus Ones.

So yes, the screen was praised left and right at first, but you need to realize all the reviewers wanted to get their own review out in a timely manner and did not have time to test just the screen of the phone rigorously--no one even knew about the axis flipping issue until a month or so later.
