ok, trying to install my first rom here on a freshly rooted V. Heres what I've done

Used gingerbreak to unlock the phone (check)
flashed in a recovery (check)
used CWM to make a back up (check... thank God)
wiped out cache, Dakvuj Cache, /boot, /cache, /data, /system (check)
installed cm-7.2.0-p500 direct from cyanogen (fail)

When I try to install it, I get this back:

Code:
--Installing: /sdcard/cm-7.2.0-p500.zip
Finding update package...
opening update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: get prop("ro.produ
ct.device") == "thunderg" || get
prop ("ro.build.product") == "thu
nderg" || getprop ("ro.product.bo
ard") == "thunderg" || ge
tprop ("ro.product.device") == "p
500" || getprop ("ro.build.produc
t") == "p500" || getprop ("ro.pro
duct.board") == "p500"
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-7.2.0-p500.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted
Luckily, I just hit the back button, and restored the back up I made without a problem... but, whats going on here. What am I doing wrong to get this installed?

Oh, not sure if it makes a difference but the restore I'm using is aospCWMod-VM670-20110531.img

When I put flashed the restore into the phone, it didn't like the file name, i had to rename it to 1_restore.img (guess it has to have restore in the name??).

two more questions while I'm at it I guess... with this CM7 do I need an app2sd or something like that... and, should I partition the SD card before or after installing the rom (or doesn't it make a difference)?

Thanks for any quick responses to this, I'd really like to get this working. Although I'd be more than happy to sacrifice time for answers that are pretty clear for a complete noobie to understand lol. (IE: no abbreviations that I probably won't understand anyways lol).

isn't installed cm-7.2.0-p500 for OV?

its listed on their site for Optimus One, which I "thought" was the same as OV? please tell me I'm not wrong? lol... if they aren't the same, then they don't have a rom for OV on their site?

I downloaded the backside rom and got that to work, not sure if I like it though, if FC more times in the first 3 hours of having it, than I've had it do since last christmas.

in the meantime. Any answers about partitioning the memory card, do I need to with any of the CM7 ports? do I need an app2sd program, or is that built into CM7? lol I redid my phone yesterday, and its almost full again (the reason why I started doing this in the first place). Thanks

P500 is a GSM phone, while OV is a CDMA phone. They are no where near the same. The optimus M and V are 1000x more similar than the P500 BUT you still need to port BEFORE you even try to flash the ROM. If you want to brick your phone, go ahead and try to flash every ROM from every other phone......the only phone that is 100% safe to flash ROMs from it are ROMs from the Optimus S. It is an identical twin. BUT MMS won't work, and if you flash a ZVJ ROM, there will be no data at all.

You have been warned ;)

To fix status 7:
Open rom.zip file

/META-INF/com/google/android/

Open updater-script with a script editor, notepad, notepad++, or gedit if you use linux.
Delete the first line of code (all the way up to the first semicolon you see) and delete the first semi-colon as well.
