Changelog
http://github.com/cy...clair/CHANGELOG

Features:

* Clean shutdown/startup system

* Built in USB tether
* ARM NEON optimizations from 0xdroid and Qualcomm
* Includes BusyBox, htop, nano, powertop, openvpn, bash, and all engineering commandline utilities
* FLAC audio support from Kenny Root
* Phone enhancements from Cytown
* Contacts enhancements from Wysie
* Perform zipalign-on-install of applications
* DeskClock tweaks- longer autosilence and "require unlock" option
* Huge collection of ringtones and audio
* All available locales are included thanks to PsychoBoy

Just wanted to add that this ROM rocks! I have the Remix version from JRummy and it is FANTASTIC! It is now ready for everyday use for everyone...I loaded it on my wife's phone and she can't deal with any stability issues herself...so I'm careful what I put on there for her. :)

Rooted your wife's phone? You will never be asked to prove your bravery in this forum again :eek:

Haha! I just repeated your comment to her and she laughed. I then explained that things can go wrong when rooting/OC'ing a phone....and "I voided your warranty". She had this "Oh Shit" look on her face and then I laughed. :D

You're a brave man... ;)

I loaded Jrummy's themed/remix, and am wondering when updates come out from Cyanogen will I be able to load them via ROM manager (got the premium version) or will I have to wait until Jrummy does another update on the Cyanogen update?

For isntance, if Cyanogenmod comes out with 5.0.5.4 tomorrow, can I load it via ROM manager, and if I do, would I lose anything that the Jrummy version I installed provided?

BTW - I am impressed w/where this ROM is from a previous version I tried...really has improved. I've only been using it a few hours, but initial impressions are very positive.

Unfortunately, no...you cannot. If 5.0.5.4 came out tomorrow...you would have to wait for an update from JRummy. flashing the new version would rewrite all the files that were themed. You might have the script functionality...but I'm not sure. If you did, then maybe you could use the scripts "bluetheme" and "blueframe" or "greentheme" and "greentheme" to get the theme back but like I said...I don't know if that will work due to what is overwritten by the update.

Oh, and I totally agree with you. The ROM is completely functional and I haven't found any bugs whatsoever (I haven't been reading CM forum to see what others are reporting though). 5.0.5.3 is so much better than previous releases...and for the first time, I am not waiting for an update on something (other than flash of course) to improve my phone. I see the people in the non-root droid forum and wonder...how bad it sucks to be them...lol They are still dreaming of LWP's and MT native applications other than Maps. They are not even going to get 5 screens...I'm loving the 7 screens...I can't imagine 3! lol

I remember I did a YouTube video on dxTop back in December (I think) and it was so nice having the 4th screen. :) How things change!

Darn...yeah, I was afraid of that. I really like the theme that jrummy's version has, so I'll have to do some reading about how to maintain it as the updates come out - don't want to have to wait for jrummy to remix each time.

I pulled this from the Cyanogen forum. I don't know if it explains it perfectly but...

Cyanogenmod For Droid V5.0.5.3 (03/23/2010) - CyanogenMod Forum - Page 45
People, please...PLEASE do your homework. It not my intent to offend, but we're playing with very expensive devices here. Doesn't it seem reasonable that before we go barging into installing new firmware, we should understand where it came from and what it is intended to do? And doesn't it seem reasonable that if we're going to go around tossing out names like ERE25 and ESE53, we should know what they are?

This afternoon I was on another forum and read in mixed mirth and horror somebody criticizing DroidMod for not embracing ESE53 when, as this person put it, the "two biggest devs out there are using it: Cyanogen and Koush." That person could not have missed the mark more completely if he'd been trying to.

There is no ERE25 here. There is no ESE53 here. There cannot be. For you see, neither Koush nor Cyanogen work for Motorola.

ERE25 and ESE53 are builds of the Android operating system done by Motorola, tailored for the Droid device. As the grapevine puts it, they were leaked, for money, by a Motorola employee to some folks who hacked out the watermarks and distributed it, and from there they made their way into the ROM releases of the most well known ROM hackers at AllDroid and from there into many people's handsets. I have no interest in debating the ethics of this with anyone, I've used those roms and I don't lose any sleep over it. There has been some very clever tuning, hacking and packaging done by the likes of Pete, ChevyNo1, AdamZ, and others. But if you ask them, they will all tell you - point-blank - that they are not building their ROMS from Android source code. They are opening up the deployment files from Motorola and pulling things out for tweaking and patching, and inserting them back in along with some various niceties that have been developed and passed around. Then they deploy them to their phones, make a backup, and share it with the world. Is it clever? Certainly. Does it work? Yes. Is it Android? Of course. But it is, and will always be, Motorola's version of Android at the heart of those ROMS.

That doesn't make them bad. Pete and AdamZ and ChevyNo1 do good work. I've used their products. I've contributed money to them, and in one case I contributed one teensy little bit of deduction that helped solve a problem.

But what the newcomers to Koush's build of CyanogenMod need to understand is that Koush isn't improving a Motorola build. He's building his own. Cyanogen describes CyanogenMod as "customized aftermarket firmware." But that doesn't make the point quite clearly enough for the newcomer. CyanogenMod is a replacement for the Android builds from Google for the N1. It is a replacement for the builds of Android from Motorola for the Droid. Alternative. Substitute.

Here's an analogy: If you buy a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and you take the engine to a good shop to have it bored and stroked and ported, and fuel-injected, you end up with a hot-rodded Harley-Davidson. Nothing wrong with that. I'll take two.

If, however, you yank out the engine and put in an S&S Super, well, that's a whole 'nuther ballgame, right? Which is better? Oh, they'll be arguing that until the cows come home. But it's a very different proposition.

The work of the guys using ESE53 is hot-rodding - taking the stock engine and making it cooler. Cyanogen and Koush build their own engines.

The only ERE25 and ESE53 here are some parts from the transmission. Follah?

Sorry for the sermon, but someone had to say it. (And if I've erred anywhere, I'll take my spanking like a man.)

Peace to all...

Raz

Well, used the ROM all day and the main negative is that when returning from an activity like navigation or adding a new app from the market, the home screen populates slower than I'd like - Beautiful Smaller Home and Google News/Weather widget (news only) - can take a few seconds to appear.

Seems very stable, no FCs since I fixed permissions, everything I've tried so far (phone, nav, wireless, market, email, etc.) all seem to work w/out issue.

Hey guys, I've had the droidmod ROM for awhile, but I'm looking at trying this one out. Can anyone tell me why I have to wipe data and what exactly that means? Am I going to lose everything on my micro SD?

droidmod is 2.0 based and the data is not compatable with 2.1. you will not lose your sdcard data just the phone data. however within rommanager you can do backups just to be safe. also when you flash through rommanager it will ask you backup? wipedata? select both.

good luck.

wiping data just means that your phone will be exactly as you first got it. nothing on the home screen and no market apps installed. the sd card will not get touched

EDIT: That also means you lose any text messages and stuff of that nature that isnt saved on the sd card

You can use SMS Backup and Recovery to Backup and Recover your texts if you need.

Better option in my opinion (as I have used SMS Backup and MyBackup previously) is to get Titanium backup. The free version is great, the donate version is even better.

When you do a batch backup on either version...choose "backup all user apps and all data". When you restore, choose "restore all missing apps and data" and then after that is done, go through the entire lists and restore what you want or need.

Example: Restore Email...restores all of your pop3/imap/exchange email settings. Restore Clock...restores you alarms and clock settings. Restore SMS/MMS...restores your SMS and MMS messages...it really is a great app!
