Goodbye Hero; Goodbye Android

Like many of you, I had intermittent reception problems with my first HTC Hero which was otherwise the perfect handset. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of replacing it to see if I could get one with better reception, and not only was the reception worse, but a couple of pixels were clearly dead the moment I switched it on, light was leaking *severely* through the top four hard keys (you could see it in daylight, whereas you could barely see it at night-time under the power key on the original handset), and when I took it to France over the weekend, a whole bunch more pixels decided to get 'stuck' on the screen. To say I was annoyed at such an expensive handset going titsup on me while I was overseas is understatement of the year. So, while I think Android is the best smartphone OS I've used to date (I'm a former SymbianOS user), I've decided to give up on the HTC Hero, and thus, give up on Android and related forums for now. Thanks for having me. You've got a great community here, and I'm sure I'll be back in 12-18 months when better Android handsets are on the market. :)

Interesting. How are Tmobile treating you, and how is the network coverage?

Is the data fast/reliable?
Any restrictions?
Any perks?
T-Mobile have been fine so far. No problems as yet.

1. The data is fast most of the time but I'm suffering from the odd drop out. Hopefully the upcoming rumoured SW update will sort this. I've been pleasantly surprised at the places I can get an HSDPA connection.
2. No restrictions. None at all as far as I can tell.
3. Perks? Better deal than Orange. I pushed Orange retentions hard but they still would not match T-Mobile. Very odd but there you go.

I always felt that Orange were one of the best out there. No real reason for this, other than most people I know who are with them have been loyal for many years.
I tried three for a while, and found the coverage good - just don't bother calling customer services!
02 have been OK. No network issues. Not a great choice of handsets though, and 3g coverage is pants (in my experience)
Never been with t-mobile. May have to give them a try to complete the set! lol

Another test: 2 bar signal this time:

Download 1539.9 Kbps
Upload 202.2 Kbps

Better :)

the best thing is if go to the following link on ur htc hero .

Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed

as htc hero support flash support u should be able to run test on this and this is more accurate then any speed test apps out there on apple app store or in google market.

when i do my home broadband speed test using the Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed

i get upto 10meg speed which is right as thats is my package.

and on htc hero i am on orange i always get more then 2meg download speed. thats with only 2 bars using HSPDA.

how can i take screen shot on my htc hero ?

i get full 5 bars at my work never test there yet will do tomorrow.

but again

i dont have wifi problem at all, no signal issue ....looks like update just around the corner.

OP, I sympathise with you.

I did a lot of research before I got my Hero and after having it for 5 days or so I have concluded that Android is head and shoulders above the other mobile OSes out there. I absolutely love it and wouldn't want anything else.

However, I am having more problems than I have had with any other phone before.

- Missing SMSes (both sent and received)
- Charging irregularities (fully charged overnight, nothing running and down to 60% by 11am)
- Weather widget inconsistent and not working properly
- Contact photos look really blocky when enlarged
- OS is laggy
- Problems with HTC Sync
- Notification bar not working while on phone - it does on my brother's

All you have to do is have a look through the first couple of pages of topics on here and you can see lots of people having these same problems along with others such as:

- Poor reception
- Silent alarm
- LEDs/headphone socket stopping working
- Problem with Facebook photos overwriting contact photos

So what to do? I have 2 days before I am stuck with it. Do I send it back? What do I replace it with? Or do I wait for this update and hope it fixes it? Why are we expected to do HTC's beta testing for them?

I can't have a phone that randomly loses sms messages going both ways - that could well cost me work!
