i dont know how to say this without bashing the phone and not that any of you care, but i switched back to my dare yesterday...the eris had potential and i really wanted an android based phone...this phone has horrible battery life even when i did all the tips to perfection, i still had to charge my phone 2 times a day...the glitches on this phone are so frustrating at times i felt like throwing it against the wall...im so mad that i wasted my upgrade on this POS phone...for those of you who do like this phone more power to you...hopefully i can upgrade soon enough to get something better in the months to come

If you went back to your dare, you can request your upgrade status be restored. The Eris really grew on
me. I'm on the road most days and I must say I never had battery issues since, from my blackberry days, I've been trained to slap it on the car charger after I slam the door. I seldom see my battery meter below 25%. I'm disappointed with some things but they are more Android related than Eris (bluetooth handsfree operation for example). That was nearly grounds for divorce for me, but I compromised and am glad I did! For me, the benefits far outweigh the costs.
Best of luck finding a new handset.

But it's your life and if you don't like it then so be it, but honestly, I would never want to go from an Eris to a Dare, it's like picking a girl up on the rebound, it will never be as good as the one you had before....

It's more like he left "the girl next door" for a supermodel, only to find out she was a freak, so went back to the trusty "girl next door".

My brother switched to the Eris a few weeks ago and is thinking of dropping it too. He's on his second unit and says he has all sorts of problems with it. I've offered to try and help him work the issues out but he doesn't seem interested. He'll be switching back to a dumbphone too, IDK which one though.

I like the phone, did you send it back in the 30 days? If so like was mentioned above you can try something new, or sell it on CL or ebay or whatever. Or if you still have it wait for 2.1 to drop, re-activate, update and see if that fixes it?

Not the end of the world, sucks you don't like it, but something way cooler will be out soon enough.

Are you certain that the meter indication has been anything near the true charge condition left in the battery?

It took me about five charge cycles to notice that two things were happening; 1., that the battery was gaining in usage capacity throughout the day, and 2., that the phone itself was calibrating to the battery.

At the very beginning I was finding that the phone would still work for hours after showing the yellowish/orange/red low battery indicator.. then it would finally really run down.

Several charge cycles into owning it changed all that.

Incidentally, Lithium-Ion batteries are never to be drained completely; that shortens their life in the long run, unlike Ni-Cad old batteries that needed to be drained regularly in order to be able to be charged fully without developing the dreaded "memory" in partial charges.

I totally understand where the OP is coming from. The Eris can be a pain in the neck for someone who just wants a phone to work with no hiccups. The Eris takes a bit of patience sometimes. I personally love it, but I'm a very forgiving person. But I would also trade it in a heartbeat for a Nexus or Incredible or something (duh). It can be the cause of much rage and frustration though. Just this week my wife and I were late to a house showing so we were looking up directions using Google maps and just as my wife was figuring out where to go her phone locked up and rebooted all on it's own.

I'm really hoping the phone is more stable and less glitchy when the OTA 2.1 hits.

Now I love the damn thing , even when it has some minor issues I can deal with it. I also like the OP had a Dare which I loved had the my 1st Dare for almost a year and it worked flawlessly then had a minor issue exchanged it under warrenty then I was going to Verizon for a new dare 1-4 times a month before they finally just gave me an early upgrade.

But yeah this phone can be a very long learning curve... Plus coming from a Dare (which battery was amazing on) I can understand the battery problem completely my dare would sometimes last 3 or 4 days without a charge now I get 1-1.5 days on my Eris

yeah when i first got my phone i did not charge it till it was dead, did a full charge for about the first week till it was dead and then i thought it would be broken in...i was only running two widgets sports tap and a battery meter widget and when i was not doing anything on the phone for about 2 hours my battery was around 73%...i also was not running any task killers because i had read here they are not necessary and to just let the apps run on their own

Sorry it didn't work out for you. This phone is great for many but not for everybody. I hope that you can get a phone that you like.

exactly, it was a learning experience for me, atleast i am now familiar with the android software for some future phones that i may buy...and to be honest i think us dare to android users got a little spoiled with the battery life...the dare is an excellent multi media phone with perfect battery life

I hated the phone but it was cute.

I'd think going from a dare to an eris would be a somewhat easy transition.
Because they have the same form factor and battery life on my dare was just as horrid.

But it sucks that you don't like it...but CL it. That's what I do with my phones now. It Might not fix the upgrade date but it's money in your pocket

when i was running 1.5 for a while my battery life was improving by the week without any task killers as a matter of fact, it would probably go a day and a half without being charged and i would of been totally fine with that, then i did the upgrade to 2.1 and it was fine for a while, then after i say two weeks with the 2.1 the battery went down the crapper

I learned to like a Omnia for a year. So going to the Eris was a breath of fresh air for me. The only thing that I miss so far from the Omnia is Orb. Other then that more then happy with my decision.

ehh the dare's battery was alright compared to other phones(i.e my pre) but the eris and dare die to quickly(within three hours of a charge) but im a heavy texter and talker

but CL is so easy to use

First you signup for an account with your email which takes about 2 mins

make sure on the homepage you click wherever you live at...i.e manhattan or wherever

click post ad...for sale...and follow the prompt

it will give you a paragraph where you type in

"htc droid eris for sale"

if i were you i'd sell for it for 200-250(no more than this...it's not that great a phone)

then it gives you a paragraph to describe the phone

and upload pix if you have any(i took pix on my webcam)

and you press post and then it goes through

I put my number in the ad(i don't recommend it) so people could call me directly to arrange a meeting or they can send an email to you(it's anonymous to them...they don't actually know your email...it goes through cl tjhen to you)

It's soo easy to do...
it takes all in all five minutes to signup and post an ad...fifteen mins for it to show on CL site and then your good from there

And trust me...i sold a 1st generation Blackberry storm the other week...trust me...if somebody will buy a bb storm from 2008 for 100 bucks then they'll buy an eris
