Help Split screen display

I've noticed larger Android tablets have a split display for things like settings, where there's a vertically scrolling menu or options on the left side and the settings for that option on the right (like with iPads).

The N7 doesn't do this by default. If I go into settings I just get a list of options and tapping one gets me a full page of actual settings for the selected option.

Is ther ea trick/utility to get the split screen display?

It's some calculation that Google does to determine if your tablet qualifies to have the split apps. I can't remember exactly, but I thought it was a combination of screen size and DPI. The same calculation determines whether you get the "real" tablet interface - with the unified status bar/nav buttons at the bottom, vs. the pull down shade.

I have modified the system DPI on my tablet to give me the full tablet interface, and that also results in apps showing the split screen.

There are 3 ways to do it. All three require that you root your nexus 7.

1. Change the DPI of your screen to force the tablet into tablet ui. Can cause issues within the play store.

2. Flash a stock deodexed ROM for the nexus 7 (like cleanrom) and flash the rom located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830016
And then flash the patch located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780970

This will give you tablet ui without DPI changes.

3. Flash the paranoid android custom ROM, which offers up the best customising in regards to the ui. I use it. Its very easy, fast, has nice additional features and is just.. great ;) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800268
