Race in America? still to far to go?

My local news this week points out a real problem still going on.

A local girl was taken from her bed by a man who did yard work for her family. He's been caught but won't tell police where she is. He actually was out with the searchers looking for her handing out fliers.

When the same thing happened to Elizabeth Smart it was national headlines from day 1 till the end.

Barely a blip about this girl here Gabbie Swainson.

Our local news said it made National media Coverage. Google Gabby still missing and see how many hits are there before its all about Gabby Douglas's hair. I guess the Huffingtn post is "National" coverage.

What's the difference? Race and if you think back over just the last decade of missing girls/babies you can see a pattern.


If Gabbie Swainson was white my town would be flooded wih National media.

Gt an other local example young woman in jail because she won't tell the police where here baby is. Her parents put out a missing persons report on mother and child. A monthe later she was in a wreck and when asked about the child wouldn't give the childs location.

Sound familiar? Have you even heard enough about this to Know her 1st name?

Guess what color she is.

Intentional or not this is plain disgusting.

I don't know that it's a race thing so much as it's a cute and blonde thing. If it was an Asian that had been taken it'd be the same thing. If it was a Mexican, it'd be the same thing. If a kid isn't cute and blonde no one cares.

yeah its not a black white these to just happen to be. Im not black but do live in a mostly black area.

Im sure its a ratings thing.

Just bothers me because media coverage is an important tool for finding missing kids.

The girl is still missing.

Would like to say a word of praise for our local law enforcement.

Sheriff Leon Lott has sent about a hundred deputies to a neighboring county to search for her around where the guy lived.

This is an other example of why to buy your kids a phone. her phone is what led them to look in that area and the connection put together that is where the guy who does their yard work lives.
He has opted to only speak to his attorney.

Just being a realist here, the kid is probably dead. I think there's like a 24-48 hour window statistically and I'm thinking it probably isn't that long. If the kid isn't recovered in that window they are probably dead. It's tragic, but it's probably true.

And when they're done, after they've killed her tiny womb, murdered any chance for her to bear children, to have life beyond her own, they decided to use her for target practice. They start throwin' full beer cans at her. They throw them so hard that it tears the flesh all the way to her bones. Then they urinate on her. Now comes the hanging. They have a rope. They tie a noose. Imagine the noose going tight around her neck and with a sudden blinding jerk, she's pulled into the air and her feet and legs go kicking. They don't find the ground. The hanging branch isn't strong enough. It snaps and she falls back to the earth. So they pick her up, throw her in the back of the truck and drive out to Foggy Creek Bridge. Pitch her over the edge. And she drops some thirty feet down to the creek bottom below. Can you see her? Her raped, beaten, broken body soaked in their urine, soaked in their semen, soaked in her blood, left to die. Can you see her? I want you to picture that little girl.

Now imagine she's white.

I do know when refugees or Roma (gypsies) go missing there is no real coverage, but if some girl from an upper middle class family disappears there is national coverage.

In my current living area, if a white child goes missing, it is balls to the walls, all out search and rescue. If it is a minority in those crappy areas I pass by while headed to town, who really cares? Few.

We had a crew of people out looking for a missing white child. Apparently, an hour after she went "missing" a team started posting flyers and going house to house. They found the child in the dog house in the back yard. In another place, a Hispanic child went missing and the police did not do much.

In my case, the area had much to do with it. No poor folk live in my area and that must be part of it.

Well, we all do care; we just do not see it on the news to any degree. the child of a banker, lawyer or successful business person is covered by the press. The janitors daughter merrits a below the fold, page 30 mention.

Race issues are always going to be part of life.

I recall when Elizabeth Smart went missing, it was big news for months. when she returned, it was big news for a month.

A dear friend lost a family member to the infamous Ogden Hi-Fi Shop murders. Sensational and truly sad. It was huge news. I remember a case were a mother systematically tossed her three or four kids off the roof of a local hotel and I read very little about the case.

At the same time, as I recall, a black man murdered three of his kids and it was not extensively covered.

Not sure what your point is. Too bad they were military, but if they were candlestick makes, it would not speak well for the cadle industry.

It was a terrible time. Far worse than anyone here can likely understand and that is a good thing, I suppose. I was there not too long after the events were discovered.

Sadly, not my first rodeo. Big sad events like this have happened three times in my life, to people related or those I know. All three events were made into books and/or made for TV movies.

I'm just quoting an article, the police pointed out they were military. Candlestick makers have different training and skill sets then soldiers.

Terrible. I have to say, it makes the NAACP look bad that they would defend these monsters just because they were black. I had heard of this case before, but it was so long ago I had forgotten about it. I almost wish I hadn't read that, its hard to get the graphic description of them being forced to drink the Drano out of my head. Death penalty was too good for this scum. Sad to know that three more criminals likely walked away from this without being charged. I hope their lives were/are miserable. My condolences, Bob. Truly awful.

Each execution brought me a little more joy. Too bad it took so long. You should ave been there when the bodies were discovered. Actually, no. Too much to bear. Too much to put the assembled group through, but it was horrific. Read the article if any of you want to know more.
