[International / GSM] Format sdcard befor rom

Is it not good to format the sdcard portion before flashing a rom? Can i use titanium backup to restore still? I have a gnex so it doesn't really have one. Can I just copy back the backups? Or not

If you format the SD then that wipes everything from the SD, including your TiBu backups.

Take the TiBu folder from your internal SD and copy it to your PC or laptop hard drive. That folder is where all of your TiBu backups are located... you don't want to lose those. When you are done formatting the SD, you can then move the folder back to the SD.

Just curious though... why are you wanting to format the internal SD?

What will happen if you wipe sd card? Will the tB replace it? Or will I lose data?

For example. If I take a tb backup and copy the folder to my laptop. Then do all the wiping and formatting the SD card. When I install TB back and copy my TB folder back, and restore apps with data, will everything be transferred back? Or will I STILL need to backup the entire sd card folder? I'm on A gnex so no sdcard slot

Still don't get it. So tb restores SD card

The answer is no, because it's designed not to.

Wiping in your recovery will delete everything on the virtual SD card EXCEPT anything contained in the folder sdcard/data

That folder contains your camera photographs, browser downloads, Titanium Backup files and anything else you have put there. It does NOT include application settings, nor the applications themselves.

So wiping the virtual SD card will keep all those things - so wipe away in recovery.

If you have a REAL SD card it will wipe everything, so be careful.

Likewise, if you delete the contents of /sdcard from a computer it won't carefully keep all your data.

No. TiBu restores your user apps. They are backed up on your internal SD. If you format the SD then yes, your TiBu backups will be gone.

When you wipe data from recovery, that wipes everything except what is on the SD.

If you format your sd from recovery, then it wipes the SD.

Wiping data and formatting the SD are both two completely different options in recovery. They each do different things. Wiping data does not wipe the SD.

Generally speaking, you have no reason to format the internal SD... unless your boot times are enormously long (in which case I personally would recommend both formatting the SD and wiping data).

When your doing a clean flash of a custom rom, then you wipe data. This does not touch the internal SD where your images, tibu backups, and other personal items are at all.
