Galaxy S3 Watering Hole

If your familiar with Odin... you can use that to flash a rooted rom. Then once you are rooted with a custom recovery you would just flash roms through recovery (ODIN no longer needed).

I typically caution new folks from using odin. If your not careful you can do things in ODIN that will seriously mess up your phone.

ATM, im just interested in getting rooted, getting CWM on there and eventually CM10 when its more stable. Ive not used EZ before but it sounds like a decent thing to have, I always used odin to root then used CWM to install the update zips for the kitchens, worked for me back in the day on the portal/spica.

X - what version of the GS3 do you have?

The EZ apps are only for the VZW GS3.

You would use Odin to flash a stock rooted rom (if you want to stay stock). Then download ROM manager from the market and then use ROM manager to flash a CWM recovery.

Yea that sounds more like it, for the spica I had to flash the i5700_LK2-08_PDA.tar file before the rooted ROM, both through odin, after that all the updates (milti touch/kitchens etc) could be done through recovery :)

I guess times have just moved on since I did it nearly two years ago. Need to wait for a stock JB ROM then me thinx

I hear far too many horror stories about folk bricking their device with ROM manager for me to personally want to touch it.

 not sure what you mean please elaborate. I flash a lot roms and lurk at xda a lot and haven't come across this. Most bricks are user error unrelated to Rom manager.

It's really hard to truly hard brick samsung devices (i.e. needing jtag). Most situations can be recovered via odin.

I lurk alot. Read lots of posts. Many mention ROM manager. Then there's usually a response about don't use it.

Can't quote any because I have none logged. I just see what I see, observe what I observe and learn from what I learn.

For my purposes I see no reason to use ROM manager. If I do wish to flash a ROM I'll unlock my bootloader and flash using CWM.

Just feels safer and cleaner that way.

Interesting... I haven't seen that but doesn't mean its not the case:D

To be honest I don't use either CWM or Rom manager. I switched to TWRP earlier this year and haven't had a reason or need to go back to CWM.

I used CWM on my Incredible and it served me well enough there. Looked at TWRP but not seeing anything that would make me think 'Oooh, I really need that'.

I like the status quo. If it ain't broke then...
