Help WTF 10% battery life in 4 hours of being on standby..?

unplugged my phone this morning at 7am, have sent two text, checked fb once, and here it is 11am and my phone is telling me it's about to die. I have nothing synched, nor automatic updates, and nothing running in the backround. disabled most of the ATT bloatware too. have only had the phone 20 days. normally has lasted me well over 10 hours while using frequently and now, idk wtf is going on. any help? here's a pic of my battery history. Android system using 90%!? nevermind, new user and can't post pics yet :/ Well here's the breakdown

- android system 90%
- cell standby 6%
- screen 4%
- android OS 2%

3h 52m 34s on battery.

Can't see pic. If you've not used the phone, android system will be high. Its all got to add to 100% somehow.

Your timescales do sound bad though. Only screen shots would help really.

Do you have a spare battery you can try? Your battery may have gone bad.

Yes, but if Android system has makes up 90% of the 90% used, that means that Android system has used 81% of the battery in under 4 hours. That's not normal. I've had similar usage before (but not that bad) and could never figure out the cause. It would just get really hot and the battery would drop like a rock. The only thing that seemed to stop the usage was turning off mobile data, but that's not a very good solution. As soon as mobile data was turned back on, the battery drop started again.

Since then, I have rooted and put a ROM on and haven't had any more problems.

no spare battery but will try and get my hands on one today. UNfotunately because I just registered they won't allow my pics to attach. ylexot, I did notice my phone was extremely warm this morning as well. I have a speck candyshell case on it and could still feel the heat through it. I have a data tracker and today i have used 2mb of mobile data.

Not sure you know how it works? It has to add up to 100% so are you expecting every application on the phone to equally using up? so %20%20%20%20%20?

Also, I personally think 10% in 4 hours is pretty normal, considering the first 2/3% of the battery isn't actually 100% anyway (so when it's 100% it's basically 97/98%) and 4 hours of 10% means 40 hours would be 100% completely dead. I don't see an issue here..?

this was a post i did on another thread. this might help you. it helped me.

if your using everything on stock with the galaxy s3 i recommend you putting the background processes on "no background processes".
go to settings ,developer options.
it also has the option right above limit background process called do not keep activities. that kills all apps that you enter so you dont have to back out of everything. so there is no need to install a task killer on the galaxy s3.

and i do have another tip for you all out there... if your using a downloaded home replacement launcher, a way of putting a task manager widget on your phone is, long press the home screen , go to shortcuts,activites, then scroll down to task manager... there you go, there is no need to download one from the android market,google play whatever it is now. some people out there think it doesnt come with one but it does.just hard to find lol.

Yes, all of the items in the battery usage list should add up to 100% (probably a typo somewhere in the OP, but that's irrelevant). If Android system was responsible for 90% of the battery drain and the battery has drained 90%, then the Android system has used 0.9 x 0.9 = 0.81 or 81% of the battery.

Thats what I was trying to say. 90% of not very much for Android system is fine in itself. Just not getting to 10% in these time scales.

My recommendation Is Purchasing (or using XDA membership to get free) "Better Battery Stats".

Today my battery life was terrible as well. Only thing I changed was adding about 25 gigs of music to the phone. Did some research and it seems this can cause more battery loss. I'm going to remove a bunch of music and see if things change.

Settings > dev options > cpu over lay ... you will see gsiff_daemon eating your cpu .

I don't like the fact that the software turns my radio (Wifi, Bluetooth and phone) at will.

When the phone is idle in my pocket, I want to be able to receive mail and text notifications. This is almost impossible when using JuiceDefender.

There is a setting to turn on the radio signals every 5 minutes to check for mail and such, but I haven't used it yet and don't know how well it works.

On the upside, most people that have JuiceDefender are reporting that it does wonders for battery life.

I use JD and get text notifications with no problem. Do you have it set so you can't get them? JD does not seem to help with the problem that the OP has. I have had JD on my phone since day one and I had this problem the other day. It seems to have gone away for now.

I do see the customizable settings. However, it seems to me that I am defeating the purpose of even having this program in the first place as I have disabled anything that turns off my phone's radios (WiFi, Cell Service, Bluetooth), which are the biggest battery drainers.

Am I getting text messages with it running? Can't say as the phone is new and since installing Juice Defender two days ago, there haven't been any.

However, on default settings, all my radios would turn off once I put the phone in my pocket.

So, here's an update this morning. Yesterday I turned my phone off and back on (did not restart.) battery levels seemed normal throughout the evening. Charged my phone overnight like usual and took it off the charger this morning around the same time. I've used my phone about 10 times as much as i did yesterday and here's the report (again, can't post pics because i'm a new user :/)

3h 16m on battery
battery level 82%

- screen 52%
- cell standby 30%
- Android OS 6%
- Android system 6% (compared to yesterdays 90%)
I also checked cpu usage yesterday and it was like 3h 45m. today it is showing 1m 54s.

seems for some reason yesterday cpu was blowing up.

Rogue, I checked the cpu overlay today for the gsiff_daemon, but didn't see it (although today things have been working great)

Well that is your problem it shows up when your phone forces a hot boot and its drains the batter in just a short time if you have rebooted you have gotten rid of it. And it shows up on battery usage as android system . You don't need all these battery apps like these dudes are saying just if you notice a fast drain put up the cpu and sooner or later you will see gsiff

Also, I must admit that I am rooted and pushed my CPU all the way up using SetCPU, though I am *guessing* it only pushes it to the limit when needed.

Before anyone yells at me, I had this battery problem prior to using SetCPU.
