Hi All,

I've just bought a Dell Streak Mini/5 and charged it using the USB cable. The device switches on, and works fine (I can connect to the internet via wifi, and run all the apps I've tried running), however when the Streak sleeps (either by me pressing the 'Power' button, or by leaving it to time out) when I try and 'wake it up' by pressing the power button, a colourful stripe a few px wide appears down the screen for a short time (less than a sec), and then the backlight stays on, but the screen remains blank.

Does anyone have any ideas? My first instict was a screen issue, but I'm not sure as the phone works fine until I try and make it sleep. I'm tempted to try a firmware update, but I don't want to void my warrenty. I've tried a hard reset.

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Websimmax! My Fellow Streaker! Hope you get a speedy resolution. Where did you purchase your Dell Streak and wasnit advertized as new? Have you tried playing with the screen timeout settings, adjusting it to never sleep and test it by pushing the sleep button?

What about doing a factory reset. If that wont do it, sounds like a bad internal component. I will start looking around to see if I can locate a duplicate scenario that may have a resolution follow up posted. If so, I will postbit back here. I am very curious about what is causing that.

Thanks for your speedy reply Rico!

In answer to your Qs:
I bought the Streak on ebay, from America (I'm in Aus). I don't plan on using it as a phone, so SIM shouldn't be an issue.
It was advertised as brand new, and had the sticky film stuff on it when it arrived.
I have set the screen timeout to 'never', and pressing the 'sleep' button produces the same problem. I have tried leaving it for a while with the 'never' setting, and it doesn't seem to have any problem, until you put it to sleep.
A hard reset had no effect.
I will try and do a software update (Settings-About-Update) in the morning when I have access to wifi, but it is seeming more and more like a HW fault to me :-(...

Please let me know if you have any other ideas,

Cheers

Greetings to YOU too! From America! Sorry to hear of the problem your Streak is having. There is a great possibility that its hardware, especially the connection that controls the reaction of your pressing the sleep mode button.

Before I would make any system updates or function changes from how the new device was delivered, I would contact eBay and person that sold it as NEW. Describe exactly what happens when the phone goes into sleepmodeand what steps you have to take to wake.it up.

Is it still returnable (within a number days from purchase)? I womdernif the seller got all good.feedback from other sales?

Thanks again for your reply.

I managed to do the update on the 'phone this morning, to the newer version of Android (this was automatically done by the phone, so I figured it shouldn't affect the warranty) but the problem exists. The coloured line across the screen doesn't seem to be appearing any more, but the screen remains blank (with the backlight on, and buttons lit up). There seems to be a further problem in that it doesn't always switch on properly, no Dell logo appears and the backlight and buttons light up, but no life. Must be a dodgy connection or something in there.

The people from whom I bought the item replied to my email over night, and have offered to replace the item. I will post the item to America today (at my expense - but that's a whinge for another forum :p), and hopefully all will be resolved before too long.

Thanks very much again for your help!

Webbsi! Thats excellent news! As inconvenient the situation may be, it is a good feeling and a breath of relief that the seller will honor the transaction and make it good.

Please keep us posted here in your Forum Discussion. And WELCOME to Android Forums! My fellow Dell Streakianite!
