So without the huge storyline, I screwed up and chose to factory reset my rooted Evo and now I cannot use the phone because the Rom that I had flashed is the only thing the phone recognizes...in other words there's nothing but a blank main page that is accessible when on.

I've scoured these pages and have read all the info on what factory reset does, but how do I UNDO what I've done? How do I get my phone working again? I realize this is about the most stupid thing I could have done...so all help would be appreciated!

If you still have recovery restore a nandroid. If you didn't make a nandroid shame on you!!!! Bad! Or you can reflash or flashing a new rom. If the phone boots you can use titanium backup to restore data. In the future do a little research before you factory reset, or erase things. It will save you from that oh whit feeling you get after you boot up and realize you did something real back.

Welcome to AF!!
Can you/do you know how to get into your bootloader screen? And from there into recovery?
Do you have a nandroid backup you could flash?
If not, and you can get into recovery, all is not lost.
Just post what info you can for us.:D
I am assuming you wiped your phone in recovery? Or how did you reset the phone?

Edit: dang! ninj'd twice! but nice!!

On an aside question...as I said earlier, I rooted the phone about a year ago, and since that time I cannot connect the phone to my computer at all. The computer doesn't recognize the device and said "driver not properly installed." My work around has been to take out the SD card and plug it into my computer directly, but it sucks in this situation...Any help as to what caused this?

just got my phone in mail from ebay it was rooted and i have no idea whats going on with this thing having the same problem tried to factory reset then went back to turn on and i cant do anything with the phone it just shows battery status and wallpaper

You need to restore a nandroid, or flash a rom. A backup would have been handy. What prompted you to perform a factory reset anyway?

Hey chunks, welcome to the forums!

Let's do this..pull your battery out and wait about a minute, then put it back in.
While holding down the volume button, push and hold the power button.
That is your bootloader screen. Post back here what it all says.
Then, from there, try to go into recovery by selecting the recovery option and tell us what it does.
Don't worry, I think we can fix it:)

O.k...this is what I think should be done...and I will copy/paste the instructions here....these are taken from this guide:

I kinda edited a little just for you:p

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

Basically, this is what we are going to do. We will install a recovery (called AmonRA). Then we will flash a rom to get your phone working.

Do you have adb on you computer? If not, let's do this:
1. On your desktop, create a folder and call it "Android"
2 download and move these 3 files to that folder.
adb.exe
fastboot.exe
AdbWinApi.dll

3. Download these 2 files and run both of them:
HTC Sync 3.0.5551
Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Time to install the recovery.

ADB command method
1.download amon ra 2.3 from here:
PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip

2. extract the file and then go into and move recovery.img file into the android folder you created.

3.on your phone you should be in the bootloader menu screen, highlight and select the fastboot option and plug the phone into your computer. (the word "fastboot" should change to "fastboot-usb")

4.on your computer press and hold shift while right clicking the android folder.
5.select open command window here option (windows 7)
6.enter command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
congrats!!!!!! you have just installed amon ra 2.3

7. get out of fastboot and highlight recovery, that should put you into your new recovery screen.

Time to flash a rom.

1.first you need the vr superwipe (this is not a rom. this is a file that wipes your sytem partitions and also wipes all the temp files as well:ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip. download it and put it on your card. (optional)*
2.download the rom (i recommend MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]) of your choice and transfer it to your card.
--To transfer the files to your sd card, in recovery, there should be an option called "usbms toggle" That will mount your phone so you can see the sd card contents on your computer. AFter you transfer the files, unmount the phone.
3.go into recovery (you should already be in recovery)
4.make a nandroid backup (for you, there is nothing to backup so, skip this step.) :)
5.select wipe from the main menu and wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data
6.select flash zip from sdcard
7.find the superwipe file and select it.(optional)
8.find your rom and select it. It will install the rom. Wait until its done. Then,
9.reboot.

first boot will take a bit longer then normal, so be patient.

That should do it man! :D

If you have any questions after reading this, just ask so you are clear on the process.:D

hell yeah you guys rock my phone is now functioning better than before thankls alot :)

NICE!!!!!!!!!

now go and get your flash on:D

you can get most roms from here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html

the staff picks are great roms to start out with. i believe you are on mikg which is a great rom. but if you are fealling adventurous try deck's reloaded aosp rom.

also the second post has some info on what roms and kernels are.

and lastly read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html. the after root section, the second post, also has more info for you to read and know.

and you know what to do if you have any questions.
