Root Partition SD Card to FAT 32 and EXT4

Hey, is there any way to increase your internal memory??
As we know we have very low internal memory on our SGA. I was browsing XDA forums for my brothers samsung galaxy mini and found this thread which said i could format my SD card into to partitions, one FAT32 and the other EXT4. where FAT32 will be used for normal storage like songs etc and the EXT4 partition can be used for storing apps and this acts like a extension to the internal memory. Can this be done for SGA?
If so please give me a step by step procedure. Thanx a lot

SGA(rooted) running cm 7.2 stable release.

Yes it can be done for SGA, in fact its quite common, you just partition your sd card and use the apps to control which files to be stored on sd-ext and which on internal memory.

Try these methods:
S2E for CM roms only: [Guide] REAL guide for FULL Apps2SD using Clockwork. - xda-developers
Link2sd for any other rom: [TUT]install apps as much as you can, DON'T WORRY ABOUT MEMORY!![FAQ's][14/7/2012] - xda-developers
App2sd: couldn't find a tut, but its alot like link2sd. Search at xda for tutorial.
Amarullz Script:[script][share] AMARULLZ DATA TO SD-EXT(A2SDX) - xda-developers
This one is quite new at SGA, it still has issues, many people report problems with this, so probably not for you, but its good for knowledge, it'll be fixed very soon.

I would also say that you should upgrade to the latest CM nightly, its much better than the so called stable version.

i did the s2e thing and got LOADS of free memory!! thanx! but i read on xda that i should not clear dalvik cache from cwm recovery if i have done this..as it might give me some probs..can u explain..
then wht about when i flash new roms ?? do i clear dalvik cache or no..coz in instructions its mentioned..and what about the apps installed in this ext4 partition..can they be backed up and restored to the same place with titanium backup??

When you flash a new rom, you already format system, data, cache, sd-ext, each and everything is erased, it doesn't even matter if you erase the dalvik cache then.

When you flash new rom you have to install s2e fresh and move all apps to sd-ext.
I think TB can handle them, you should ask these questions in the S2E thread at xda, you'll get better answers there.

No idea mate, i don't use launcher pro at all, i always use adw.
But i know that every theme won't be a launcher in itself. Its just an apk you install, then the theme comes up in the launcher's theme selection box and you can apply it in there. That's how it is in most launchers.
Install the launcher, install the themes then apply the themes from the launcher's settings

frenz can you tell me the use of partion of sd card into fat32 and ext4 as i have done the3 same and dnt know there use...and how to delete the partition created by me> ples help asap

Since the ACE has a very low internal memory, and most of the apps available these days are required to be installed on the internal memory, so the number of apps that can be installed on it become very limited.
So what these methods do is to create a partition on the sd card(fat32 or ext), then we use these methods to fool the system into thinking that this partition is a part of the internal memory only, hence we get an increased internal memory, the original internal memory + the sd card partition.
Only a limited part of sd card is partitioned into ext2/3/4 format and used as internal memory, rest of the space is used normally like an sd card.

Partitions can be created/edited/deleted by using partitioning tools like minipartition tool etc. Even the custom recovery all root users install can create and format a partition, although its functions are limited but it does the basic job.

Sorry i didn't understand your partition size problem. You need 1 normal fat32 partition and 1 ext3 or ext4 partition, both primary. Just partition for ext using minitool partition(whatever ext partition size you want, personally 4Gb is a lot) and reformat the remaining sd card partition as fat32.
So the card will be divided into 2 sections, regular fat32 for your music and stuff and an ext partition for your apps.

As for the memory, simply partitioning the sd card won't give you extra memory, you have to use a script or app to make the phone recognize and use that ext partition as an extension of the internal memory.

This will help you,

Look mate, the person who wrote that tutorial is not trying to pass time writing useless things, if you want it to work you will have to follow each and every step. If you don't understand something then first search for it on xda or google it, still you have problems ask in that thread, all those hundreds of comments are from experienced users, they have gone through exactly what you are going through. Your doubts are most likely already answered in the thread if you take the time to read all of it.

Now what you have missed here is the most important part of the process, your current system does not allows 3rd party/user scripts to be added in it, and for this to work you need to make the system take those scripts so that it can use the ext partition on the sd card as internal memory, else that ext partition is a worthless waste of space, the phone won't even recognize it.

CF-root is a custom kernel for stock roms made by ketut.kumajaya, it gives your phone the ability to run user made scripts, they are stored in a folder called init.d, the kernel creates the folder in the system and makes the system able to run the scripts stored in that folder.

Now you can either follow the tutorial or leave the method, its your choice.
