today i download rom manager premium edition. i went into the program and clocked it. then i downloaded ultimate droid 8.6.3. i then followed the steps ad wiped data and went into to recovery mode to install it. installation went fine and when it rebooted the animation went on and went to droid setup. i put gmail in and it syncs then when i got to click the finish setup it gives me error and i have to foreclose thus getting no where i can still receive texts , emails, and phone calls and navigate to them plus use search button but i cant click home.i can download and open any app if i have too. is there way to do it manually on the cpu and take the rom off PLZ HELPPP

Sounds like a bad installation.

Wipe your data, then format system, format cache, format boot and then reinstall your ROM. Make sure you have the ROM on your SD card so you have something to install. If that fails, try a different ROM (but I don't think it is a ROM problem).

We need something like that. Seems like the number of discussions about root stuff is going way down and the number of problems being solved is going way up. Not that I mind helping people but its getting a little nuts

I really don't want to start a war here, but this might be another case of the rooting people need to make absolutely sure that the novices know that rooting is not for people who have no idea what they are doing.

Every thread I have seen lately has become about "Just ROOT!!!!", and since the people giving the information just leave it at that, more and more threads are popping up saying "Gee guys, I rooted like you suggested, and my phone is now F-ed up."

I rooted, tried a few mods, went back to stock, and am waiting for 2.1. Stock is fine for me. 2.1 will bring more features. For some it isn't enough, and they want to root. Thats fine, and there are TONS of threads abotu it on here. Please just make sure that before you guys continue to throw out the rooting recommendations, that you implore that they read every step, and take their time. Read the instructions through BEFORE they try to do it. It's really fairly easy for someone who is savvy, but for people who aren't, it isn't as simple as "JUST ROOT".

Just sayin' to be aware of that when you give advice. ;):)

To the OP:
I would agree with UBRocked on this one. Wipe everything and re-install.

yeah while to process of rooting, flashing, backup/restore and repairing are pretty easy i think some just find it hard because most of the tutorials and writings are spread across many different forums. i just took a few hours one day and did lots of reading and testing. the old measure twice cut once rule kinda applies with rom flashing in my eyes.

I am afraid for many the only way to get there attention is when they have their first crisis. I find myself giving the same advice and instructions over and over. People are going to continue using their "one button rooting solutions" and ignore warning as it "does not apply to them." When they get into that first boot loop they suddenly become enlightened. Just human nature...

Yeah, we had a discussion about the inevitable flood of "help!" posts that we foresaw coming due to tools like DROIDMod and the like, and you would not believe the number of jerks who would yell at us thinking we were insulting DROIDMod or is devs. And yet every post / thread like this one us only proving our point, that if you make it too easy then when someone gets stick they panic...

Not trying to engage you in a war but.. ;) The problem with what your saying is that more and more people are NOT even asking the basic questions or doing the standard sticky reading, which is there for a reason. There are so many people posting panic questions after they jumped in the tank with all those pesky sharks. Most with under 5 - 10 posts to their name.... even more stating that they just got their phone 2 days ago.

Unfortunately we can't control that aspect of the game.... at the end of the day it's the end users responsibility to educate themselves and ask the questions. There's no BAR exam required to pass in order to root and ROM... and with the ever present enhancement of tools like ROM Manager things are becoming increasingly easy to dive into that tank..

Well said... I was admitedly very scared at first to root... however if one takes the time to read and follow the awesome knowledge that is out there it really isn't that hard.

The people on this forum are awesome with the information they provide and if it wasn't for this forum, I would have never been able to root... So while people here might be overly passionate in telling others to root (something normal since we all seem to love it and want to share with others), they are also pointing them in the right direction and really can't be held to account if someone doesn't decied to RTFM...
