Froyo (2.2) wishlist

Since 2.1 has been around since Jan, which is quite a while in android years, it can't be long before we see the rumored Froyo, aka 2.2.
So far it's only the N1 that's running 2.1 commercially and it will be the N1 that gets Froyo first . So who better to know how 2.1 can be improved than us N1 users?

Coming from 1.5+sense, i think 2.1 was a great upgrade and resolved nearly all the issues i had with 1.5. But there is always room for improvement.

Here's my wishlist in no particular order:
1. A real equalizer in the music app
2. Better task manager that lets you switch and close apps, similar to cards on the Pre
3. Built-in ability to store apps on the sd card
4. Built in exchange calendar sync
5. Integrated gesture search. i love this app, but i wish i could use it anywhere i can use voice search

So what new features do you want in the next android release?

Native tethering. If my 3 year old subsidized, locked V3xx could do it, my $529 unsubsidized, unlocked phone should be able to as well. To heck with what the carriers want. Let's get the CAPABILITY in place and then have the fight with the poor put upon carriers over why that capability forces bigger bills. Maybe it would speed the march to pricing by the bit used, not by the capability.

BT handsfree dialing of a locked phone. Ditto what the 3 year old V3xx could do.

another vote for BT voice dialing. Lack of that one has been a bummer.

Regarding hyperlinks, I have no problem clicking on the numbers and it calling. Why doesn't it work for you? Well, the numbers work on Handcent and the numbers work on the stock browser. For the stock browser, the number isn't highlighted but you can just click it anyway. Works for me.

Agreed, however, it would be nice to have native support for most of these features - especially Exchange Sync. I'm rooted and have tried a couple of ROM's that offer this support and it's still nothing special compared to the iPhone's IMO.

Have you run the sense rom? I agree, there really isn't a spectacular solution out there, but sense is a bit Better...

I know Handcent does it which is why I said native. I'll have to look at the browser though, sure it didn't work last time I tried...

Improve camera color and white balance (it is AWFUL).
better copy and paste (like iPhone).
ability to save attachments from Gmail app.
Better keyboard.
Smoother operation (at times it lags).
Better music player.

I second dwd3885 on that, mainly the item about having a better keyboard (also if it could support suggestion for other languages, I am interested in Brazilian Portuguese).

Touch to focus on the camera screen. I've had trouble with some up-close shots focusing on the background no matter what I do...

2.1 seems to have brought a lot of polish to android, but there are still some areas that can be worked on:

1Music player needs proper equalizer settings. As well as a bit more eye candy not bad but still very plain
2)Touch focus on the camera as well as more settings, white balance etc.
3)Built in video editing for the video that we shoot at the very least just the ability to trim it down
4)Apps to sd tired of monitoring the number of apps
5)Divx support as well as more formats such as avi
6)Default control of trackball led for different notifications
7)Full Copy and paste

Some of the other quirks of 2.1 are to me addressed by certain apps, for example the keyboard is improved on by swype of the htc keyboard.

Yup, I think it's good, but so far it hasn't prove consistently reliable (for syncing, I sometimes need to force - understand it's an Alpha though) but my biggest complaint is that there is no easy way to drill into a calendar when the event pops up, i.e. once I get an invite, I want to be presented with an option to drill into the calendar to see where it's at.

I have a feeling it will be included because the linpack numbers in the top 10 have an N1 with a 40 MFLOPS running Froyo. Exciting stuff.

You can install PDAnet without rooting your device. It's not "native", but it took all of 3 minutes to install on my netbook & Nexus One. It's free if you don't need https and only $30 to purchase. And using Bluetooth it can tether wirelessly.
