Root Help with IM app and Gmail app!

Hi everyone, I'm new on these forums and after looking through the forums, was unable to find a solution or even anyone else who seems to be having the same problem as me.

Problem #1: I recently rooted my mytouch 3g 1.2 and flashed to the latest cyanogen rom. The OS was noticably faster but I also noticed that my IM app was nowhere to be found. I am able to install apps with no problem and the OS is perfectly fine with the exception of the occasional lag. I currently have AIM installed but I prefer the stock IM app.

Problem #2: Over the past few days I've noticed my Gmail pulling emails slower and slower and less frequently. It used to notify me of new emails within a few minutes but now I go hours before I get a notification, when the emails were received long ago, or I'll check on the actual Gmail site and see new mail but notifications won't come up until hours later. I rather use the Gmail app instead of the Email app because I like the UI better but I can't find any push/pull settings for Gmail. I'm not sure but would Power Manager or Advanced Task Manager have anything to do with this? Does anyone know how I can change the settings where Gmail pulls more frequently?

Problem #3: More of a nagging issue than a problem but here it is.. Usually when I sign on AIM or Nimbuzz, I'd get signed off if my screen goes out for a few minutes. I'd like for AIM and Nimbuzz to stay signed on while I'm at work and have the phone in my pocket because there is a bit of downtime throughout the day and I like to keep up to date with what's going on with friends. Am I doing something wrong with these apps? Are they supposed to stay on even when the phone is locked, or is there another option to do this?

Can anyone advise me on what I can do for either issue? Thanks in advance.

I believe this is the IM app that you are looking for

I would make sure that you ignore your Gmail app in any task manager that you have. Or if you are using some sort of Startup Auditor or Autostart, be sure that you aren't killing Gmail all the time so that it cannot update unless under special conditions or you checking it manually.

Also, I'd say keep an eye on any task manager with an autokill for when the screen goes blank that may kill these apps forcing them to be started up again, causing you to log in again.

1. This is gonna sound stupid, but are you looking for an app called "IM"? The stock app is called "Messaging", which confused me more than once. I promise you that the CM rom didn't delete it, though. Also, I'm pretty sure the stock app uses SMS instead of data. Something to keep in mind.

2. The Gmail issue is a not-uncommon bug, I've had it a couple times. Go into Manage Applications, open both Gmail and Gmail Storage and delete data, then reboot. Should clear it right up.

3. Some IM apps don't work well in the background, some do. The only one I've used other than the stock app is Ebuddy, which *usually* stays logged in, although it's logged me off at least once. But try different apps out, see which you like.

When I first got my mytouch, there was an IM app installed that would allow me to sign on AIM and MSN and such. As far as I can tell, the Messaging app that is currently installed on my phone (Cyanogen 4.2.15.1) does not allow me to sign on to talk on AIM.
