not another when 2.1 thread but sprint tech support told me...

last night the 2.1 was supposed to be out late march but a problem with mms messages having to download is what pushed it back. no date was given, but i thought it was funny how the new rom's have mms working properly.

You know what, that would make a lot of sense. Now we know that there was supposed to be an update on Aprl 9th that had something to do with MMS messaging, but had no information about Android 2.1. Perhaps Sprint's initial gameplan was to release 2.1 on March 26th as we (sort of) expected, and then push out another maintenance release on the 9th to fix the MMS, but realized it would be better to just release 1 update isntead of 2. Think about it - if you recieved 2.1 without MMS working, wouldnt you grip to Sprint about it? So would a loooot more other customers, I'm willing to bet.

Verizon's beginning Android 2.1 updates what Sprint waiting on????????:eek::eek::eek:

Oh no! A single phone got a 2.1 update before our precious Hero's! The world is ending!

On a more serious note, perhaps Sprint and HTC are finalizing getting Sense (on the Hero) and all their apps to work? And perhaps due to Sprint having less development funding than Verizon? And perhaps they're making sure releasing this update OTA won't crash their system? And perhaps the fact that Sprint is under no contractual obligation to provide an update?

Just be happy you're even GETTING an update, regardless of when it comes (assuming it comes before their end of 2Q deadline that they posted).

I usually don't say anything to trolls but I just had to chime in on this one:

With all due respect, why do you feel the need to rain on everybodys parade? Every post I've seen from you is something negative about people inquiring about this 2.1 update which is important for a lot of people (including me). This forum was created for people to voice their thoughts and their opinions.

I'm not lucky I'm getting an update. I was promised by Sprint before I bought my phone that they would be upgrading the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment to 2.1, and dammit, I'm going to hold them to it.

I'm a Moment user, and my phone has a lot of problems including CDMA lockup, UAM (unwanted airplane mode), lag, and just a generally buggy operating system which is mostly due to 1.5 not natively supporting CDMA.

Now don't get me wrong, I totally understand that it takes time, effort, and man-power to develop a new OS but what really gripes me is that it's possible they are holding it back for marketing reasons, or that it might just be neglected because they've focused all they're energy on their newer phones that are coming out (EVO 4G, Nexus One).

It's not that I bitch and post everyday because I want all the bells and whistles that 2.1 has to offer (but it would be nice), I inquire and inquire and inquire because this update will finally let my device function the way it was designed to.

If you don't agree with someones post, then by all means post a rebuttal. But when all you're going to do is be negative then just save it buddy, because it's not helping anyone in this forum, including you.

Actually, the vast majority of my posts are extremely helpful. (thus the 51+ thanks I've received...albeit, I should start actually clicking the button when someone answers my own questions lol)

The rest are me being annoyed at the amount of 2.1 threads that pop up. No, I don't have to read them all, but I do anyway (I've got nothing better to do). I also don't mean to piss anyone off with my posts, I just see absolutely no point in going on and on about the update not being here yet, even though Sprint hasn't set a date other than 2Q2010.

If they're holding it back for marketing reasons, then kudos to them for making the smart business decision. However, I don't believe they are. I'd say it's more likely that they're making sure the damn update won't brick phones, and won't cause a meltdown in their system. Let alone that the technologically illiterate masses can actually update their phones on their own, or at the very least that there is an economical and timely alternative to doing an OTA update.

Remember the fiasco with your CL14 update on the Moment? How you had to go to a repair center to get the thing updated, when some repair centers were a hundred miles away from the person using the phone. And it took weeks (six weeks, if I remember correctly) to get a OTW or OTA option available? It's entirely possible Sprint is trying to make OTA, OTW, and repair center updates possible all at the same time (assuming the update even has a chance at being OTA), rather than making people go to a repair center when it could be too far away to do such a thing.

Not tryin to be a jerk, but why would you buy a phone (or any product) that doesn't work properly, even if you were promised a fix? If my Hero was a buggy piece of crap it would've been returned and I would get a phone that worked, we had 30 days to try it out.

You probably do help. I guess the only time I see you're posts is on the 2.1 posts. No hard feelings I just wanted to get that off my chest.

And yes, CL14 was a fiasco and the reason behind that was because of Sprint's poor communication skills. All they had to do to fix that was be sure to send every store an email. That poor communication is still going on now hence the reaosn Sprint reps are dishing out all sorts of wrong dates. The brass up at Sprint headquarters need to make sure that the whole corporation knows what the hell is going on.

I whole heartedly agree that they shouldn't release until they feel comfortable with the debugging AND a way to roll it out efficiently, but it just feels like theres something else going on that's holding this thing up.

Your not a jerk. I bought the phone because I really really like a physical keyboard. I've thought many times about trading it in for a Hero but I just don't know. I've heard it has it's share of problems too including that CDMA lockup and lag.

Maybe you can convince me to jump ship. :p

Judging by the issues with the current leaked Sprint 2.1 beta, it is not even close to prime time. I would be surprised if Sprint can release an official update in April at all.

My biggest reason for wanting an update is that some Market apps will only work with 1.6 and higher - particularly Epocrates..

Here's an IDEA to the Admin's here.

You added the "Thank You" to users profiles, I thought this was silly at first, but I actually like the idea now. What I propose is it be expanded to include a "NO Thank You" or Negative record of posts. Sound Good? Well it could be used to have objectionable posters be told their post is not appreciated but do it in a discrete manner, this way, if diatribe is necessary it could take place between two parties through PM's. It could also be a tool to FLAG users for review by admin's that the user is possibly in need of some attention. Anyway, just a thought.

The entire 2.x thing is worn out and outlived it's welcome. Nothing NEW being offered in posts other than "Geeee - I heard this, or I spoke to that" is quite annoying. The "I'm entitled to an update" conversation has lost it's legs as well. It is tiring to see the same over and over without the people who open new threads on the subject at least READING other threads and posting in threads already engaged in the topic. There really is NO NEED for a new one again and again, 3-4 in a day... THAT is what the problem is. There's nothing wrong with posting the info, but the continual NEW threads is so tiring.

Hahaha, DVDqnoc - Chuck Tweeted me they were in the process of finding Dark Matter at the Large Hadron Particle Accelerator, should be back in town shortly.
