Best Metro phone choice towards the end of this year?

Right now I'm with Verizon and a Droid X that I'm pretty happy with. Except the $. ($85 :( ) I used an Optimus for a month a couple years ago that I think had a 3.2" screen and I didn't find that too bad but that was also before I used the Droid X for two years. Though I like the DXs screen, the phone itself actually is a little larger than I'd like.

I am concerned the step down in Screen Size though will bother me. But, on the other hand, no one seems to complain about the size of the Motion's screen so maybe not.

Am I correct that the Esteem is close in specs to my Droid X? Even Wirefly's $329 is too rich for me but I see there are plenty on The Bay like new for $250-275, and that's more attractive.

My contract is up with VZN in Feb. Last re-up believe it or not I got them to give me a $400 credit for a two year reup! I DO NOT think they will do that again. (They tried to weasel out of it until I sent them the MP3 of the phonecall... ) It's probably going to be time for me to bail on them.

Assuming they don't start selling the Galaxy S3 for $199 for Christmas :D Is the Motion or the Esteem my best Metro choices between say Christmas and Feb?

I'd also be interested in any skinny on where to get the best deal on an Esteem if it's close to my X.

I'd especially like to hear from those that went from a larger screen to a Motion.

Much thanks,

I had an esteem for a long while, I still do.
But I wouldn't go back from the motion. Its so much faster and responsive.
With the esteem, no matter what rom I used, at some point it would start lagging.
With the motion everything is good and its stock. As soon as you press the WiFi icon, the WiFi turns on. With the esteem it would take a bit. Yeah the screen size is nice and the support you get from the forums is as well, but really the lg motion has pretty much the same support. There's no cm7/9/10 or any other ROM like that other than stock ROMs so the lg motion ain't that far behind. You get more for your money with the motion.

I also went from a dx to the esteem. I bought the connect less then a month later. That should tell you how unhappy i was with the esteem. By all accounts the motion is better then the connect. So there you have it. The motion 4g.

But... You got untill February right? There's bound to be something even better by then what's the rush.

There's no rush but knowledge is power.

I've read around and all that seems promising in the immediate future is the S3 but I'm not going that kind of money. I might go 250 for a phone but that's about it.

My inclination is that the positives of the Motion outweigh the smaller screen. If I can get that verified (or not) now, then I know which area to search in. I do a fair amount of Fleabay searching for fountain pens so I'm there already to look for phones too.

I also actually signed up for email from Wirefly, hopefully between now and Feb they'll have a deal on Motions.

(Beside, if I decide to do full war with VZN again, last time, other than taping the call, my secret weapon was to call them on the Virgin Mobile Optimus I was testing out and Tell Them that was the phone I was using to discuss the re-up with them. :D It wouldn't hurt to do battle this time talking to them on a possible replacement Motion. OTOH, I'd be even more surprised this time if they come close to matching what they did last time <and I was super surprised then!> and I'm not wild about getting back in the mud with them again.)

With my Esteem, ever since I moved almost all my apps to SD Card instead of internal memory, and upgraded to ZVD, the boot up and performance has gone up considerably. Those of you complaining about the speed of the Esteem should consider trying this before you dump the phone.

I wouldn't get a Motion unless my Esteem broke or got stolen (again). Going from a 800x480 4.3 inch screen to a 320x480 3.5 inch would be a considerable downgrade no matter how you look at it. Yes the Motion will run everything faster, but the huge drop in screen resolution and display size becomes very noticeable when you're browsing, texting, watching videos, and running games.

I'll be upgrading to an S3 most likely in the next few months cause...life's short, heh.

That's fine if I were a phone fiddler but I'm not. (Good on those of you who are!)

Yeah, I like the 4.3 on my DX but almost every time I touch it I think "But it sure is a Hugh Jass Phone".

Yeah it's a smaller screen but that also gets the phone back to more what I think the phone itself should be sized.

The Motion and the S3 are the best Metro Phones by far.

If LG releases a big brother to the Motion which is about 4 to 4.5 inch dual core 1.5 Gig with 2 Gig RAM

And a higher res screen and a 2200 Mah battery-like a better version of the LG Escape-would be a very cool phone IMO.

And LG has the LG Optimus G coming which is their answer to Iphone 5 and S3-which hopefully Metro will carry.

But for the next month or two-

Galaxy (soon) and Motion are the best bet by far.

Seems like the Motion has very few problems or bugs also-extremely functional

right out of the box.
