Root [Boost Mobile] [GUIDE]Easy Root Method - Works w/ B10 update! 1/28/2013

I am not a "Guide" or "Moderator" but I do believe that it is "IMPORTANT" to hit the "THANK YOU BUTTON" IF SOMEONE SUPPLIES YOU WITH GOOD INFORMATION. It helps to keep the hard working Rom Moder's, Rooters and those with good input Motivated. And "Donations" are excepted also if you're able. Gratitude is Great! :D Just a little note. ;)

Edit; Hope I don't get in trouble for this Post. :)

Ok, I just rooted my phone using this method and I want to be sure it "took" for lack of a better term. I downloaded "download all files" app. Then the easy root. After loading from SD card my phone booted up and looks exactly the same as before.... same wallpaper, apps all in the same place.... normal?? I do have SuperSU in the app drawer. So does that mean Im rooted??

I also tried to DL Titanium Backup * Root but then noticed I need to the PRO version to run it.

What does the cmw do? Sorry guys... new to this!!

You are rooted if supersu is installed, cwm is a custom recovery that will let you make backups and install roms themes etc... I would recommend making a backup now and then you can try a custom ROM for fun... To make a backup, turnoff the phone then hold the power button and volume up together until you see the recovery menu. Choose backup and restore the backup, after that use the back button and then reboot. Now that you have a backup you can install a custom ROM... I recommend mine called n00b ROM to get started, instructions are on post one.

Welcome aboard!

Hi everybody,

I have a ZTE n860 (android 2.3.5) from Public Mobile in Canada. I tried this method to root my smartphone but it failed.

During the installation, I had this error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Does someone could help me?
I have the same problem. Apparently rooting doesn't work the same way for Public Mobile. :(

No idea if this is helpful, but I found the latest update for Public Mobile N860: http://wwwen.zte.com.cn/endata/mobile/Canada/Canada_Instruction/201208/P020120821641123679818.zip

Maybe a developer can take a look at that? I was able to install that without a problem, maybe there's something in there that could help for Public Mobile N860 specifically? I don't know anything, just grasping at straws here. I really want to get my phone rooted!

Thanks for any help. :)
I will take a look at it, no guarantees. You will need to be a tester unless someone else on public mobile can test.
So with that said anyone on public mobile and wants to be a tester for any future projects pm me and I'll add you to a list specific to this. Don't expect anything right away, I have other projects that need to be finished first

So, somehow Im able to use TB and did a backup of everything on my phone. After that, I did a CWM backup like MrBobo said, now I have no room on my SD card and I don't think I actually got everything on the CWM backup. So Im thinking it would be better to erase BOTH then start over and just do the CWM backup??

Oh, MrBobo- Paypal??

Try deleting your cwm backup first, since you have a titanium backup all you need the cwm backup for is the system files so delete the cwm backup and then do a factory data reset, this will erase all your data/apps etc (that you have backed up with titanium), then do a backup of just the system clean. That way you can restore your apps/data in whatever ROM you flash or you could restore them back if you need to go back to your cwm backup... don't know if you realize how cheap sd cards are now though, you might want to get something bigger/faster than the stock one if you want to be able to make a few backups as well as store any pictures/music on your phone: Newegg.com - Team 16GB Micro SDHC Flash Card Model TG016G0MC26A

No paypal account at the moment though my wife would probably appreciate me at least putting some food on the table from this hobby eventually to make up for some of the family time I have spent playing LOL

Sounds great. Thanks, and I'll check back periodically. :)

Well what I can tell you is that it is pretty modified to work for public mobile. Maybe we can just take the stock update, deodex it, add super user/binaries and sign the zip. If that works out we can do the same as posted in this thread, with cwm
That makes sense. I know you're willing to do it for the sake of helping others. However, I tell you what. If you get it working, I have twenty dollars with your name on it - I'll just need your paypal address. :)

ATTN: Public Mobile customers
I may have a seperate solution for you to root and install cwm without a computer. I need testers. You will need to pm me and also have the update for your phone(listed above) on your SD in case something goes wrong. I am not on pmi so I can not fully test this. I did however test the basic structure and kernel. This will also give you a deodex base you can make your own rom off of.
Please pm me because I will not post until its proven to work.

The public mobile ROM is b07... the differences are small... the mms and phone apk have to be switched out between the two... and everything in /system/etc/ has to also be switched out... they also have a lot of extra crap apps and a different keyboard... don't know all of the details but I'm going off of what downthemachine reported... you'll have to talk to him to get a full rundown... but none the less he produced a bootable ROM last night for boost.... nothing obvious was broken... and like I said we couldn't test ril since it was on a test phone... and I was kinda shocked that someone tried to use my ROM and call it ICS for the public mobile phones... I can see my ROMs distinct gingerbread attributes in it... we got kinda happy at first because we really though it was ICS until we took a closer look... Lol... gonna talk to them about it later today
