Well I finally made the switch to 2.1 and am runnning the cyanogenmod 5.3. For about 2 days, it seems like I am getting worse battery life then I did on my 2.01 rom. I only have the facebook and beautiful widgets running, I have also tried disabling them. I have disabled live wall papers and have also updated to the latest baseband to see if that helps. In settings the biggest culprit is display and cell stand by. I use the medium setting on the power widget for my brightness so I am not sure what else to do. Btw, I'm at about 40% on 6 hours of ligbht texting. Is this normal, and anything I can do to help with this? Thanks again!

40% after 6 HOURS AND YOU'RE BITCHING? I am a hardcore user, and im at 40% on my n1 after pounding it all the way to work on my commute(2hours). Buy a second battery if you have a problem with REALISTIC battery thresholds that current tech is able to provide...or buy a damn razor...cause smart phones SUCK BATTERY!

n1, CM 5.0.5.3, 2 BATTERY!

You are doing fine. Try experimenting with a few different kernels (see if the low voltage kernels work for you) and different profile settings in SetCPU. I use Quick Profiles to turn off bluetooth and wifi, and adjust screen brightness depending on my current situation. All in all, 40% after 6 hours is not bad but can get better with some experimentation (and will continue to improve with the developers constantly tweaking ROMs and kernels). I keep my USB charger handy at work and if it is going to be a long day keep my phone plugged in in my car just to top things off.

The cell standby reading in the ROM is evidently inaccurate...you can actually turn airplane mode on and then off again for it to read properly. Worked for me.

I have a friend who is at 70% after a full day of use...I'm more like at 40% after a work day. Never been able to figure out why - he uses more stuff than I do, it seems...his phone is just better at battery use. Could partly be he has a much stronger signal at work than I do, and if the phone has to hunt for a signal it eats battery...

From what I have read the crazy signal loss percentages are more of a reporting error than actual battery drain and not really anything to worry about. This has been an issue for a while. Also, how is everyone reporting there battery usage percentage? Programs that reported estimated battery life (like Battery Left) vary significantly from direct objective system readings.

I noticed this on mine... is there a fix for it? I'm not too worried about battery life, it is ok but any way i can make it better is a plus... :)

From what I've read, if you have high standby as well as high signal loss you may have a "real" problem that is costing you battery life...as opposed to a simple problem w/mis-reporting of standby...

40% after 6 hours seems rough. I have live wallpapers, plenty of widgets, and light usage (texting mostly) and I'm at 70% after about 24 hours.

Bout to update the baseband. Hope it helps with the reception in the basement. Bleh.

Settle down there.

I'm running a low voltage kernel at 1,000 MHz and I can go 12 hours of decent usage and only use 50%.

Do you stream pandora and stuff all day?

Which kernel are you guys using? Ive been trying out different kernels and reflashing, but I am still getting horrible battery life.

anyone worrying about the Cell standby loss, but wanting to keep cyanogenmod, I would suggest trying JRummy's CM 5.0.5.7 Themed ROM...

I have not really worried with the whole cell standby battery issue, but when I switched over to JRummy's ROM it has gone away completely...

I did not try Koush's 5.0.5.7, so it may have been fixed by his latest update, but I know for a fact that cell standby loss doesn't exist on the JRummy ROM....

copied and pasted from a post i just made in jrummy's thread on the cyanogenmod forums:

today i finally had an 8 hour work day so i had some time to let the phone sit idle to test out this issue. i took the phone off of the charger at 8:15 this morning and after 8.25 hours of idle time it was still at 80%. right when i left work i had a quick 2 minute phone call and then on my 15 minute ride home i played some music with the rhapsody app with the screen on. when i got home, so just under 9 hours since it was taken off of the charger, my battery showed 70%. other than the 15 minutes of playing music with the screen on, the quick 2 minute phone call, and me pulling it out of my pocket to check the time every so often, all other usage was the phone sitting idle.

about mid morning i checked battery usage and it showed time without a signal being 50% under cell standby. i quickly put the phone in airplane mode and quickly took it back out of airplane mode. i checked it again maybe a half hour later and time without signal then showed 0%. so there is definitely some kind of bug or glitch going on there but it doesn't actually seem to be consuming battery. i guess the only question is whether me quickly toggling airplane mode on and then back off midway through the morning had any actual effect on battery or just had an effect on the percentage that was being displayed.

either way, battery life has been good. also with bekits 1.0ghz lv kernel the phone seems to run pretty cool and fast.

I'm on P3Droid's 7-slot 900MHz...

I get bad battery life in general at work, where we have a poor signal. At home w/the phone off charger at 7AM, I'm at 70% at 4:30PM. A key issue, IMHO, is that I get a good 3G signal at home, so the phone doesn't hunt for 3G constantly like it does at work. I've used it for calls, some texts, and hour streaming a podcast, marketplace stuff (adding an app), some email, used wireless for about 20 minutes, and IRRC I made a nandroid backup of my current ROM earlier this AM.
